Japanese puzzle-adventure game released for PC-98 in 1995, developed by Wolf-Team (one of their last games prior to Tales of Phantasia); has received a remake for the Nintendo DS in Japan. This game combines Portopia Serial Murder Case-inspired adventure mechanics with a Western point-and-click adventure system. During the "Real Time" segments, you use mouse controls to manipulate one or more characters on-screen, and to designate which character(s) lead the party or act independently of leader actions. There's a lot of timed puzzles, item management, basic crafting to make things easier, and manual mapping when exploring dungeon-like areas. Overall, it's an audiovisual masterwork for the system it's built for, and the game itself is very unique and complex compared to its competitors (which include eroge and traditional adventure games like J.B. Harold).

Translating this game seems to be a key issue, as its plot set in the Taisho era no doubt engenders complex dialogue rich with difficult Japanese to follow. The rom-hacking process itself shouldn't be too difficult, and providing the requisite emulator standalone should be easier for a PC-98 game than for any game from another J-PC platform. I think that, of all the non-Enix Japanese adventure games out there, this one should be easier than most to localize, as there's only one partial instance of nudity and plenty of interesting ideas and cool art that can be used to market it. If nothing else, the game hasn't yet received a soundtrack, not even on Project EGG where the game's sold in Japan today. It's a Motoi Sakuraba score, so fans of his work are bound to buy this in droves.

Comment burried. Unhide. .

A Japanese (partial) point-and-click adventure game?! I'm getting teary-eyed just finally seeing such a thing exist. How did I never hear of it?!
