Graphical adventure game in two parts developed/published by System Sacom under the Novelware label in 1988/1989 for the Sharp X68000, NEC PC-98, and Fujitsu FM Towns. Hacking and translation for the two parts combined will take more effort than normal due to the Novelware games' quantity of Japanese text fit into small memory capacity.

Compared to other Novelware titles like Chátty and Darkness of Kin, "Soft and Hard Story" is light-hearted, even offering more agency to players in the first part. Unexpectedly, Hiroshi Saijo, heir to a burgeoning software company, must supervise while his father recovers from illness. In-between school and household chores, players must effectively manage the needs and wills of employees, as well as draft a release plan for their new game DAME (referencing Sacom's initial Novelware game DOME). This ends up as a mix of business simulation and visual novel, with multiple endings and clean, windowed art to help visualize the story.

The second part has Hiroshi leaving his position after the success of DAME and Mr. Saijo's recovery, at least until he falls enamored with a new receptionist at the firm. Ditching the sim-game mechanics, Soft and Hard Story II sticks closer to other visual novels of the era, albeit with improved audiovisuals. Like its predecessor, a mean streak flows through the script, with many contemporary games parodied amidst increasingly complex plots between characters.
