lordjakegog I suspect the reason they keep it unavailable is because Steam probably has an exclusive. I don't know that, but it makes sense. The entire Total War franchise is, as a group, a pretty attractive draw for Steam...

Iris030380 I hold very little hope that the owners of the TW franchise would ever let their (even 2 decade old) games go on this website DRM free. I don't see why they wouldn't as current STEAM players of S:TW are practically zero. I'd love to be able to get a copy that actually works with Windows 10. I have three hard copies, one of them unopened and still shrink wrapped (have even more copies of Return To Castle Wolfenstein for some reason...) yet I can't play Shogun for the last three years unless I fire up a retro rig. Obviously, that is a lot of hard work to play one title.

Sometimes I'm able to download games, sometimes not at all, I managed to get Shosgun 2 installed, then it crashes when loading any and every battle... Spent tons of time to research how to fix this issues and nada, I give up (and I do not understand why it worked perfectly until 2 years ago... and now, nothing).
Never had an issue with GoG instead.
ironsidestwo I should point out that the PC I'm using is a clean XP install without any of the updates that causes the game to have problems, I put this together for the purpose of running older programs, last time I tried it on an old XP (one that wasn't a clean install) it would not install at all.
ironsidestwo Still have the original bought within days of release and it still runs on my old XP (originally 98) but would really like to have a DRM free version, played it to death in the day and it really is the best game Total War produced and the one I think truest to its original concept, I also bought the Gold version later but it proved to be effectively unplayable unless you autofought every battle.

Colin_Gorton It does seem strange that such a popular title hasn't been taken on by GOG. I can understand why it wasn't added to the collection earlier, because it would play on most machines until recently.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. The original Shogun will play on virtually NO modern machines (AFAIK it won't even play on WIN 8,1 and portings for OSX never ran (likewise Rome, even Apple's own version won't run on most machines).
I'm a recent convert to GOG, but an old player. Please make an old guy's day and put Shogun et al up on here.

richardsjca One very sad day, Shogun: Total War simply stopped working on my Win 7 machine. I hit the internet trying to find a cure, but no love. I actually upgraded to Win 10, JUST hoping that this might resolve this problem, with equally heartbreaking results. Please, Good Old Games, you're my only hope.

raptor117 I have the retail Gold Edition but really hate putting in the disc to play. It's already scratched beyond recognition and a DRM-free version would certainly be a life saver. I already have the Shogun 2 but I doubt that my celeron powered laptop (yes. I'm still using that) would able to run it. And hopefully the crashing bug should be resolved for the GoG version. I discovered that I have to remove a lot of mp3 files (seem to incompatible with the OS) from the game folder to play it without crashing.
OctaSteve I loved how this one could be completed relatively quickly. Takeda + Heavy Cavaly = Good times. ^_^

jrhawk42 I never got to play the warlords expansion of this, but Shogun is one of my favorite classic games.
RafaelLVX All Total War games fit perfectly here because I wish to play these games very badly and don't because of the stupid DRM that mandates that I need a Steam account and active internet connection.
