4K is the best way to watch this video. The play-trough for the High Quality mod DEMO was captured without bilinear filtering. Textures look as if they were pixelated and sharper (similar to how they looked on a PlayStation console). The DEMO for the current GOG release was captured with bilinear filter ON. Every play-trough was captured in 4K resolution uncompressed frames to showcase as much video detail as possible as to compensate for cropping and resizing. Occasional frame-skip is due to the high demands of the uncompressed 4K capture resolution.
Poor programming (and hardware limitations at the time) in the original PC port of Metal Gear Solid (year 2000) creates all sorts of glitches, bugs as well as breaks things to an extent. Although I am not a programmer I identified and fixed several of them. I unlocked Meryl's sneaking suit (which isn't something you can see in the old Retail and current GOG release of MGS), although more than a fix it is a bit of a hack. However, one that works from beginning to end even if the game is saved. I unlocked this feature but it isn't part of the HQ audio mod.
Cutscenes play at 30FPS and at around 33075Hz sample rate (like for the PlayStation) for my High Quality DEMO VS the 24FPS at around 32000Hz sample rate for the Retail/GOG release. This also isn't part of the audio mod.
There's a few things I am not disclosing for a reason but the most relevant details for the audio mod were mentioned in the video itself.
GOG has a dedicated page in their website were you can vote which games you want them to bring back, that aren't already in their catalog or anywhere else yet. I checked and Metal Gear Solid is a game they have flagged as "Released".
Although this initiative is a great addition they brought to their website, I think they could expand on it as well. Anyone who feels the way I do please back me up on this, but essentially what I mean is: Metal Gear Solid is a great example of old games that play on PC but not at their best. MGS on PC allows for high resolutions to be selected but, audio quality lacks substantially when, as I have proven with my mod, the game can achieve the same audio quality the PlayStation did originally. I say this because this isn't about game preservation (which I fully am in support of), this is a different issue altogether. "Some" (not all) old games (especially if they are console ports) can be improved substantially to make them play the same way they did on consoles. At a minimum, if a game supports higher quality audio or similar (the same way it was on the console it was ported from), the publisher/online stores selling these games should do their best to bring these features to the final product. There may be licensing issues, etc... to be dealt with, so be it. People want quality, not support the next quick "cash-grab". The Resident Evil trilogy is another great example of this. Take the first title in the series (the others as well): it supports higher quality audio and other features, yet, it was released with inferior audio quality. How do I know this? Because I fixed some of these things myself, I just haven't made videos about it. It should not be a modder's job to bring these basic enhancements of a game to life. Other good old games could use some quality enhancements, and you the customers know this better than anyone else. You probably own at least 1 game of which you know for a fact that it fully supported features that are not implemented in the final product. Can anyone come up with a list of these games? I've already mentioned a few.
Demand GOG and Publishers to look into this closer. You know in your heart I am not at fault for saying what I am saying. This entire Metal Gear Solid audio mod was the work of a single person. This alone should really speak volumes as to how old games just want to be brought back for the sake of saying "we brought them back for you", NO: you brought them back for yourselves! What happened to good old "patches"? Modern games and Operating Systems get patched monthly, even weekly. Game publishers should consider enhancements as patches. What's wrong with that? We are playing old games on modern systems after all...
I don't know about you but, the only reason I own this audio mod (and it's not the only one) is because I wanted QUALITY and I couldn't buy it anywhere around so I made it, the way it should have been from day 1 and, from everything I've gathered so far... things suggest this game could have supported high quality audio even back in the year 2000 when it was first released. Being lazy about not optimizing games' resources fully isn't just a recent or modern developer's thing... it's been around for a while.
If you own Metal Gear Solid on GOG you deserve this mod OFFICIALLY, not from a sketchy download on the web, after all you paid for this game!

This is rather unfortunate, as I would love to play these games again. It would be great if you could try to resolve these region specific limitations so we could all enjoy these games once again.

ProtivulyaUA GOG you are breathtaking for making MGS1 & 2 back to PC officially. Please ask Konami to make MGS3 (Subsistence) also available in your store. MGS3 is the best part for me. MGS4 is impossible to port, but at lesat MGS3 would be great! No needs for patches from Konami or other activities, just playable port of MGS3 and that's all. Community will do the rest for this game: patches, fixes etc., like it was with V's fix for MGS2 and Integral patch from oxide-NL for MGS1. I really dont want to replay MGS3 on PCSX2 and really want to pay Konami and you real moneys for fantastic game. I know you can do it, all fans of MGS here believe in you!

LukakoRamen The Metal Gear Solid games that were ported to PC, aka 1 and 2 run terribly and MGS1 especially has tons of missing audio, cutscenes, and is just broken overall. Konami would never waste resources on remastering the MGS 1 - Peace Walker and bringing them to PC. Even if they did, the chances of Konami bringing them onto a DRM free platform like GOG is next to nothing.
wildkage123 JFYK Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 were ported to PC. Microsoft did so I think to convince Konami of the _Xbox (metal gear solid 2 also got an xbox port) Metal Gear Solid 1 is difficult to run on modern systems though, since it's an old directx version it uses. Metal Gear solid 2 is easier but haven't tried that. the second game lacks many effects on the PC version though, even with fan fixes.
If Konami will allow it I think they'll be able to make it work on modern systems, but this is konami which is more interested in slot machine nowadays sadly
