European Air War completed
Need this Gog, if i can get the original to work you can
Definitely nice to have... not on Steam either :(
I love how pacific air war is here but not this game. its about damn time its come already too but im having my doubts that it will.
I long for European Air War as well. My favorite plane, the P38 Lightning was fun to fly.
Still the best. I have it running on Windows 7 with surprisingly good graphics, but would buy it again if GOG released it.
Another vote for EAW right here
Cmon, that's a classic one, it has to be on GOG, it's a prestige thing. If any financially viable, it would just make sense
I would like to add my request to the many others. This was truly a great game that deserves to be brought back. Thank you.
I would buy EAW in a heartbeat if it was given the GOG treatment!
Oh, just to add, that #1 sim game over all that I mentioned wasn't a flight sim. It was a different type of simulation. EAW was my #1 in a flight sim.
Might not be the best simulation game I ever played. Thinking about it, though, it just might have been. It's darn close. I guess it was second overall, after careful thought. I won't mention #1. However, European Air War was hands down the sim I had the most fun in, ever!
I remember once in a flight escorting bombers, in single player mode, just for the heck of it, I decided to see what would happen if I shot down one of my own nation's bomber planes as if I were an infiltrator or something.
I opened fire on the escorted planes. My NPC squad mates began screaming at me to cease. When I did not comply, my own squad began to fire at me until I was eventually shot down. That was the first time NPCs actually suprised me by reacting in a totally logical way to my very illogical game play. I was hooked. Sure wish I could buy EAW on GOG. It truly is a great old game.
Not my first flight sim (that would be Chuck Yeager's Air Combat) or even my most played (that would probably be Aces of the Pacific), but I loved EAW. It would be awesome to see it here. I don't think it has many issues installing on modern operating systems outside of some wonkyness with the video.
Concur in suggesting adding European Air War (EAW). An excellent Combat Flight Sim. Do some googling, and you'll find out there is quite a sizeable support community out there.
This was my first real computer game when I was young, it holds so many memories, I still have the original disk as well, the game needs to return, it accomplishes something that far to few simulators emulate, the actual war itself, I remember once being shot down over the channel in a spitfire 1, instead of being back at the squadron the next day, my pilot drowned, and the campaign ended there, another time I caught a burst of flak crossing the French coast in a Typhoon and had to bail out over Occupied France and was taken prisoner, European Air War captures the feeling so well, and to see if adapted to modern systems on GOG would be a godsend.
GOG really need to get with the folks that did the DSP mod. It works on modern machines, with many more theaters of operation to choose from. If they could pay a pittance to Microprose, and something to the community that put DSP together for the effort, I think they could bring the game to GOG rather easily.
For those of you hankering to get your 'fix' of EAW, I would Google DSP140 for European Air War. Bit hard to find, but worth your time to fly this gem again!
From what I understand, there is some outmoded screens (8-bit) that were supported for about three minutes during the chaotic period following the Win95 release. I believe WinME was the last version the original game worked on for me.
Un jeu extraordinaire auquel j'espère bientôt pouvoir rejouer...
THE BEST (yeah, Im talking to you, IL-2) WWII flight sim ever made. Period. Why? Because it wasn't a simulation of two planes meeting three planes over a flat, barren (geometric) plane. It was a simulation of air actions over Europe AS THEY ACTUALLY LOOKED AND FELT TO THE REAL PILOTS OF THE TIME. No other sim I know of puts you in the air with dozens or even hundreds of other aircraft on a mission to bomb the hell out of Adolf or defend the British Isles against a Luftwaffe Gone Wild. You could be flying a Battle of Britain mission and see, in the midst of your own desperate dogfight, AA flak bursting off in the dîstance, over some city miles away, as little specks rose to meet the attackimg Gerries in their neighborhood. Five minutes later, you might notice smoke beginning to rise as some of the German bombers found their targets. You could even, if you wanted, break from your battle to run to the aid of those distant brothers...fuel, ammo and time permitting.
I dont have to have been a WWII pilot in Europe to know instinctively that this is, save for the harmless bullets, exactly what it felt like to be one, AND that it is highly doubtful whether anyone will ever come close to matching this work of art, much less improving upon it.
It's so good that I much prefer its lower res graphics over any hi-res flight sim graphics Ive seen. Something about the graininess of them actually ADDS TO the sense of realism. The landscapes seem full, populated, and alive in a way that those of no other sim's do.
In my opinion, as simply a historical teaching tool if nothing else, EAW is worth its weight in gold and has no peer.
My first and best WW2 flight sim. The first sim that I was able to take screen shots of.
Excellant ai flight models.
The first proper game I ever played, loved this game, still have the manual would pay RRP at release for it even now
This is probably the greatest flight simulator out there....Me any my brother have countless hours invested in it, but it is a pain to get going on newer machines. Please, please bring it back..I would drop 60 on this game in a heartbeat.
Such a great game, and the original doesn't work on Win7 ... :(
One of the best!
One of the best ever. It's only genuine rival for the crown to B-17: The Mighty 8th which is here on GOG. So let's get it in the ring and in the fight.
I used to play this game all of the time and would pay 50 bucks just to play it again. Please bring it back.
Pacific Air War was great, IL-2 was better, but European Air War was the best of the best. Still have my original disc & tons of mods on disc, but like everyone else, can't play it on Win 7. I've been praying for someone to bring this beauty back for years...PLEASE be that someone!
this would be a fantastic addition, and help beef up the real sim section..
I'm praying that EAW will come to GOG as it was almost the only flight sim that dad kept coming back to.
great follow up to the original Pacific Air War. Still being enhanced by the community today
Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, I really want this game back it was the only Sim ever to have bird strikes when flying at low level!! That kind of detail must be worth bringing back to windows 7 and 8. :-)
I continue to keep an old windows 98 system up, just to run this most amazing ww2 flight simulator. it is the very best. Much better than the IL2. Nothing compares. It would be most awesome to be able to fly on a newer faster system. This game MUST be preserved. A requirement to aviation history.
Excellent sim, and a worthy successor to Aces Over Europe. Last WWII flight sim with a decent campaign mode. Agree that IL-2 is impressive, but there isn't much soul there. EAW is a BUGGER to get running on new machines (I know, I've tried with mixed results on Vista!) because it's a Win95 game, but as some have said, the mods for various theaters would make it worth someone's pain. Please, GoG, I've never actually commented on something I've voted on (I think) - make this happen!
I would like to add a few thousand votes for this. Best WWIII flight sim ever, good options, fun mods.
I would definitely buy this if GoG can get it for us please please please try to get this for us it was my fav flight sim
Best flight sim for PC ever, even better than IL-2. Please bring it on . . . for Mac too if possible!
A classic flight sim! They don't make them like they used to.
I may have been only 5 years old when this game came out but in the time of modern flight simulators, this game still remains as one of my favorite games ever; I've long lost my copy and it would be amazing if you guys could bring this great game to GoodOldGames, if you want to sell good old games, you better bring this game on board! Good luck! :)
I've bought and played newer sims, and some of them are quite good - but to me, European Air War is just about perfect in how it handles the range from arcade-y "want to go and just blow stuff up" to a fairly decent sim. Really miss this game.
My favorite flight sim of all time - it remains better than IL2 Stormovik 1946 (which I have several hundred hours on). Huge following amid a prolific modding community. Please bring this back!
A much needed addition to GOG library. Still has a serious die hard fan following, but not much support to help new or returning players to get up and going. This game would most assuredly receive a breath of life and a much needed revival should GOG pick it up and it would be profitable too!
I really really miss this game. It has got to be one of the simulators i've spendt the most hours playing
