"Exit" or "Off" button completed
Believe it or not, this was the last straw to keep me from using Galaxy. None of my money will go to GOG until this is resolved permanently.
How many YEARS have people been complaining about this with not even an acknowledgement from GOG? I just bought my first game from GOG and I've already returned it so I can go back to Steam and buy it there. You may think this is not an important issue, but you've lost at least one customer over this unacceptable design choice.
X should mean close. Not, continue data-mining me.
I need it 'cause it prevents OS to go automatic sleep on Windows 11. Very annoying.
+1 when I hit [X] I mean to close the damn program, I don't want it to minimize it...
+1... "X" button should turn it off completely, this is not android.
This is silly, there is a button to minimize already, why have 2 buttons to do the same thing?
Or if for some reason this is some mandatory thing to have as the default, at least give it an option to change this functionality.
+1 to this. I understand the intent behind minimizing, but it's a dark pattern to not even provide a setting to turn pressing the "X" into its expected functionality of closing the program.
Can we get this added? Or at least give us the option to enable it if we click the X to close the app. All the other game launchers have this as an option, but you don't allow us to do the same with your app?
Please make the "x" at the top right of the GOG app close the program and not just minimise it.
Please change X to close not minmize you are the only storefront left i use atleast 10 others and only GoG makes this hard on the users. Why?
I second this as well, GOG. Please have an option that the "X" button closes application entirely and not just minimize to tray.
dear gog programmers, please make the exit to tray a selection
Just started Cyberpunk 2077 and thought that this could be worth having all of this stuff and accounts in one place. Pressed the "X" int he upper-right hand corner when I was done and was notified that it was minimized, not off. That's odd, there is a specific minimize button that I COULD have clicked, if that was what I wanted. I did not. I can not change this option like in any other program that foolishly thought it was useful. Uninstalled after finding this and seeing that it has been an issue for over 5 YEARS! It really seemed like a nice, centralized place too. Shame.
GOG Programmers, please make the exit to tray a selection in the settings you can shut off like every reasonable .exe in the universe. It doesn't fit with your philosophy of unburdening the user with extraneous processes like DRMs.
Just let us close this app - there is no valid reason which we will accept to keep the app open if we do not want to.
Otherwise you have two minimise buttons which would be out of logic.
just do it
X closes the app not minimizes it, get off your fucking asses and fix the fucking bug
Please make the X in the top-left corner close the program completely.
Fucking Millennial idiocy. The little X in the upper right corner? Has meant CLOSE THE PROGRAM since Windown 3.0.
Even EGS can be toggled to exit completly. Please don't be worse than EGS.
Could the devs put that damn X button on the EDGE of the very topright corner, instead of a bit more inside, just to deny the series of windowclosing?
Oh, and yes, PLEASE DON'T BE A SKYPE! And let the exit button work like an exit button, and not a minimize!
hate those launchers doing this. who tf do you think you are? do you really think someone needs your shitty extra applications to be able to play? what retarded trump-voter came up with this when the option to minimize has ALWAYS BEEN THERE WITH _ ??
Another vote for an option to make X shut down the entire application.
I very much wish for this to exist. I don't like the trend of "x = minimize". It's annoying. I click the X when I'm done with an application and then I'd like it to actually close and be gone.
Example use case for this feature: I launch Galaxy from Kodi using a tool that suspends Kodi as long as the program is active. Because clicking X does not close Galaxy, Kodi is indefinitely suspended. The option should at least be provided just as the power button in Steam Big Picture asks whether you want to exit Steam or just minimize. Give me control back.
Request for GoG Galaxy 2.0 affirmed.
X closes the window, _ minimizes it, Exit in the top left corner shuts down the application. Is that really that bad?
Awful trend, if I wanted to minimise the application I'd click _ and not X
Being unable close the software in one click is bad enough. But having to use the tray icon every time is asinine.
Even Skype does this better. Not a good look, guys.

After all this time, still nothing. Unbelievable! Shame on all of you.
Not having this has annoying implications when playing over steam link and wanting to track progress in galaxy and sync save games. I can't restart the game from the client in the living room as galaxy will still run from the previous session although closed through X. I can't reach the tray through steam link because of fullscreen mode. Please either exit application through X or at least provide option to configure this behaviour as I understand some people like the minimize to tray option better to unclutter their task bar while downloading in the background. The way it is now I can't run a GOG game through steam link wrapped by GOG Galaxy (which I'd prefer) so I have to run it over steam link without Galaxy. It was hard to set up like this in the first place and if this does not even provide a benefit anymore because I have to run to the desktop in the other room every time, I might as well buy through steam.
How about to include a configuration option in the GOG Galaxy Client that could be named either "Run as daemon" or "Minimize to notification area" or, the most up-front phrasing: "Terminte on close." This way each user gets to choose the behaviour of the close button of the main window. The only thing that would have to be implemented is a window asking "Do you really want to abort [number] ongoing downloads?" in this special case...
I don't get you. Again, the X closes the window, not the program. Most program only consist of this one window, and so they are closed. But not all programs. The explorer.exe. Nobody wants the X to close explorer.exe, because the desktop would be empty and the taskbar would be gone. Not a good idea. Other examples are programs that don't close, but keep running FOR A PURPOSE. Take Skype as a non-OS-core-component example. Or the Nvidia/AMD settings application. Or OneDrive/iCloud/Dropbox etc. or download manager/p2p clients. They all don't really terminate when you close the window FOR A PURPOSE. Also, you don't seem to understand what "minimize a window" means. The GOG Galaxy client doesn't minimize when you click the X. Instead, like the already mentioned non-OS examples, they only stay resident in the notification area. That's a different thing. And once more: should you really don't need the client, exit it from the menu that says "GOG". That's not too hard. Okay, it's two clicks instead of one, but that's it. And if you now argue that there wouldn't be a purpose to keep the client running, think again. I sometimes have some downloads in the queue and I wouldn't want them to stop just because I close the main window. It is also what Steam and Skype and so on do. And for those who don't like the GOG Client to start with Windows: simply disable it! It's also easy. SUMMARY: I don't get your complaints at all. Is it inconvenient? Maybe a little. But so is iTunes, Windows 10, uplay, Windows Mail, ... and so on. Really, if you don't like the client then don't use it. Just open www.gog.com in your favorite web browser, get the downloads from there and install the games. You don't need the client.
Seriously, I just added a rant about this: www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/close_button_should_close_the_app
This behavior needs to end. CLOSE MEANS CLOSE.
Could you add this back within this century please? It's been almost a year since this feature was unnecessarily and inexplicably removed. Even Uplay doesn't minimise to tray when you press X.
The X button minimizing instead of closing is a cancerous trend with Windows software, much like when everything started defaulting to starting an application at Windows startup and novice users wonder why their computers become slow and unusable.
Just because there are examples of this behavior with other Windows software does not mean it is good behavior. There is a Windows minimize button for a reason (it's to minimize a window), leave X to closing the application, or give an option so X minimizers can continue on living with their weird behavior while the rest of us can close the application like normal.
Sorry guys, but I disagree. The X should always close the window, never ever should this be the same thing as to close an application. Sometimes it is though, but there is a difference. THE X CLOSES THE WINDOW. The application could be intended to continue running in the background, which the GOG Galaxy client obviously does, and for a good reason. There are numerous examples of the same behaviour from other Windows applications...
"X" button still doesn't close the application, just minimizes it. At least you can close the application with the "Exit" option under the top-left GOG COM button. But please, restore the "X" button to it INTENDED functionality.
Default behavior of "X" should always be "Exit". To do anything else should be a specifically selected option.
X in corner should close a program. Always.
has anyone looked at the menu in the top left corner of gog galaxy yet? You know hat you can find there? An "Exit" Button this also labeled as "Exit" ...
Let's have the minimize button minimize and the exit button...minimize?
Makes sense.
Thanks BKGaming. i probably wouldn't have seen that for weeks. i was used to the setting before where you could have Galaxy auto close after you close it . While it would be better to have it as it was, i appreciate your workaround.
There is an "exit" button under the GOG COM logo with other Galaxy options. So there is an exit button in the client.
@Destro: thank you so much for letting us know it's just a bug. Pheeeew! Looking forward to it being fixed :-)
Yeah, this was a big disappointment with the new version. Nobody is served by the exit button minimizing Galaxy instead of quitting; restore functionality, please!
Is this broken!? That faulty software always minimizes to tray now. I want to decide if I minimize or close - not the app! I hate software paternalism sooo much... wtf do you think I'm at GOG in the first place? :(
should be marked as "incomplete" and functionality restored
Please give us back thie funktion!
