Excellent remake

Head over Heels is a classic isometric game from the 8 bit computer era (released in 1987), by the video game pioneer Jon Ritman, that had a huge and deserved success back then. Retrospec released this remake in 2003 as a freeware. (I think the developer started it to show that you didn't need complex z buffer sorcery to make an isometric engine). Another developer, Jorge Rodríguez Santos, also started is own project in 2001 and released his own remake in 2010 (you can still find it on the web). His remake sounds more like the original, though I prefered this one for its more polished graphics. Piko Interactive then acquired the rights over the original licence, and somehow bought the game from Retrospec to re-publish it. (They didn't acquire the original Retrospec music, so it's a new soundtrack. I prefered the original, though). As it was a nice 32 bit pixel art remake of an 8 bit game, this version aged perfectly and is largely worth its price today.

Good graphics but I miss the old sounds

I like Head Over Heels a lot, I used to play on my Amstrad and finished it several times. The game consists in two dogs which have to get 5 crowns. If a dog dies you're done, you can't finish the game with only one dog. This is a good remake, I love the graphics, but I miss Amstrad sounds. For example, when you go through a door or when you lose a life.

Nice and charming with few problems

I've never played original version, this game is qutie nice still and has funny playable characters. But I have some objections regarding this game. First - game resets controls every time you close it. And by default moving is assigned to left thumbstick on controller, which is super annoying and almost impossible to play. Second problem - it resets screen size too. And third, definitely most annoying - while you falling down you can't control your dog... So it makes sometimes random moments into straight game over, even if you have many credits. Because you are falling down onto enemy, losing credit, game resets from the point you started specific screen and guess what - you will fall onto same enemy again. It will repeat again and again, so you have reload game then. There are saves, but they are limited, so some fragments will be tough and will require patience.

A Blast From The Past.

I suddenly feel very old playng this, I still remember playing the original on my Amstrad CPC 464 when I was a child. Feels a lot like the original, except I had to rebind the gamepad controls, to exactly what they were already set-to, they were a little twitchy initially, but the rebinding seems to have set them correctly ;-). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game starts in a very small window, but that is easily corrected in Windows: Right-click the game shortcut and select 'Properties'. In 'Target', leave everything as it is, but put a space at the end and type -fullscreen. Click Ok (you may be prompted to authorise the alteration), then run the game... Problem solved. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyway, besides those small technical glitches, the game seem to run fine so far on Windows 11, with no issues with sound or graphics and it runs smoothly :-).
