On his way home after another successful day creating crop circles to amuse and entertain the simple people of the backward planet "Earth", our hero Feeble suffers a slight mishap in his spaceship which results in the utter destruction of a rather important Company research laboratory. The one run by his boss, in fact.
If that wasn't bad enough, whilst drowning his sorrows in the local Space Bar, he somehow manages to get himself involved with the shadowy Freedom Fighters, a crack team of rebels who seek to overthrow the tyrannous regime of the OmniBrain, Ruler of Everything.
What follows is an epic space adventure which sees Feeble undertaking acts of betrayal, intrigue, revolution, and even a bit of cross dressing, in an attempt to right his previous wrongs and save the universe from a fate worse than life.
With over eighty locations to visit, 6000 lines of dialogue and more puzzles than a HappyBot can shake your severed arm at, The Feeble Files takes adventuring into another galaxy!

Go to the install directory of the game (default: C:Program FilesGOG....The Feeble Files). Find the file 'feeble.ini' and open it with a text editor program (Editor, Notepad). You will find the entry 'subtitles=false'. Change the 'false' to 'true', save the file. Start 'The Feeble Files' ... et voila. Have Fun.
I wasn't aware of the game despite the fact I'm a fan of adventures games, so when I saw it here I immediately download it. Feeble Files is a briliant adventure, great story, black humour, professional voices (one of the best I've ever heard) and quite good graphics (don't forget it's a ten years old game).
Overall Simon Woodroofe puts all the elements that made Simon the Sorcerer a great game plus a very clever scenario. But the game itself leaves a bitter-sweet taste to the player. Τechnically there are some issues that slows the plot like the big and uncomfortable cursors, that unacceptable inventory system (oh god!) and the fact that there are some cutscenes which you can't overpass and you have to see them again and again and again... (specially when you travel and in jail). If we consider this with the fact that you're not always sure what to do, then try eveything on everything take a loooooot of time. Ah, there's no subtitles too, so you have to pay double attention when English isn't your mother language and it's unplayable if you're deaf.
To conclude if you're a veteran of the kind then you should try it out, if you're a rookie then you better find something else to start with (Broken Sword for instance). I would have gave the game a five-star if there wasn't the technical issues but...
First of all let me say that you should buy this game if you love adventure games. It is pretty decent, funny and engrossing.
For those who aren't particularly interested in adventure games, here is my review:
Atmosphere:
Even though this game has no music, all the little details of the Feeble Files universe immerses you in. Don't forget to check out encyclopaedia in your Oracle!
5/5
Story:
Story is extremely good; it is both hilarious and epic. Also it is one of the longest stories I’ve ever seen in any adventure game.
5/5
Gameplay:
It is just like any other point-and-click game released. However, our main character Feeble walks way too slow and some puzzles might be too hard for people who didn't play many adventure games. Nevertheless, if some puzzle makes you tear your hair out then just pop up Google and search for Feeble Files walkthrough.
3.5/5
Graphics:
Well it is rather harsh to compare an 11 years old game's graphics to todays; instead I'll compare it with Monkey Island 3 which was released in 1997. Unfortunately graphics isn't an area which this game excels, backgrounds are beautifully done but since AdventureSoft created character animations in 3-D they certainly show their age and look much worse than backgrounds.
3.5/5
Overall:
4.25/5
This is a sci-fi point-and-click adventure game. The atmosphere created by the storytelling and especially the Oracle computer where you can look up basically everything is really well done. The sci-fi dystopic world of the Omnibrain is immersive and obviously a lot of effort went into perfecting it.
Also the graphics are very good, even though this game was created a long time ago. The colors are beautiful and functional. There are several cutscenes with better graphics as well.
I would say the interface is a little obnoxious, but not as bad as other reviewers mentioned. Right-clicking will instantly list all of the saves or all of the encyclopedia entries. Double-clicking (left and right) skips cutscenes. It is hard to get past the item interface. It takes an awful long time, and I guess this was meant to discourage trial and error.
I would say the difficulty and puzzles are obnoxious. This was meant to sell copies of the walkthrough which were originally probably a moneymaker for this company. You are lucky gog provides the walkthrough with the game. I also like using UHS hints. Many of the puzzles are very long and have a complex series of components to the solution. I could get some of the pieces together, but could rarely come up with the whole solution without hints.
Overall the game had a strong sense of frustration rather than fun.
Pros:
Extremely long epic story, lots of side things to do, challenging puzzles, very deep environment, sense of involvement, climactic buildup, terrific voice acting, hilarious, should run on just about any computer. Even my old 95 could run it just fine.
Cons:
Dated graphics, puzzles can be EXTREMELY difficult at times, very unforgiving of newcomers to the point and click genre, slow character movement, very little music, no background music.
Overall comments:
The Feeble Files was one of the first Adventure games I really truly enjoyed. When I first owned this game, I had played previous point-and-clicks, such as monkey island, beneath a steel sky, lost island, roger wilco, etc. Feeble Files captivated me for hours, and left me satisfied and a great sense of accomplishment. But, be aware that it is a very difficult point and click.
other comments:
The story line loosely resembles 1984, so 1984 fans should definitely check out this humorous spin.
If you are a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy/red dwarf/ other british sci-fi humor, this is a must have game. The Oracle (aka hitchhiker's guide sort of thing) has full voice acting, all brilliantly done. This just adds to the games immersion factor, so definitely listen to all of it.
Final score: 5/5
