Civilization w/Heroes of Might and Magic
It's pretty much a straightforward light version of Civilization with the Combat from Heroes of Might and Magic. I've owned this game since it was released and go back to it often though I have never completed it. It never fails to entertain when I do revisit it.

Huge nostalgia for this one - satisfying Might and Magic gameplay, viking/norse raiding and pillaging. I asked specifically for this on the forum requests for new games and have been waiting patiently for GOG to add it... sometimes your requests are granted! Been #1 thing I've wanted to see on here.

Even better than CIV / HoMM III
I love love love this game. Been playing this with a friend since we were kids. The game is still for todays standards really good. I think games like Civ are too complex nowadays and they miss the freedom to do things like you can in Hammer of the Gods. The only thing I don't like is that building castles yourself is a bit too overpowered, but if you want to make the game harder for yourself just don't build any or set yourself a maximum amount you're allowed to get. The balance is also a bit rough since elves and trolls are better than dwarves and humans, but you can just increase the difficulty for those races to even the playingfield. Overall: BUY THIS GAME, you won't regret it

Awesome game
Not a simple game by any means. Deep strategy if you want to dominate. Endless replay value with random maps. The discovery of fog of war maps is a crucial element which adds to the challenge and fun.

Relatively Simple, but Amazing Game
The game is somewhat simple and easy to win even on higher difficulties. Conquer / found a few cities early in the game, speed up first 5-6 quests, and then you will have enough money to hire troops and win around. Despite that, the game has quite of a charm. Magic creatures, Gods, magic items are in here. Random maps gives high replay value, and you need to carefully choose your enemies.
