Amazing for Gen X folks

This game does exactly what it says on the tin. it is a fusion of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and even gives nods to games that came before them like Alone in the Dark etc. The story is similar in ways and builds atmospheric tension quite effectively. There is female nudity, whilst I didn't buy it for that reason specifically - being an old perve I enjoy it none the less! The themes are very dark and the horror is lovely so the developers are certainly not insulting your intelligence with censorship. The controls are tank controls but somewhat modernized - it didn't bother me one bit and I actually enjoy it. Graphics look amazing to me, especially since I am still using my old 2013 Dell Inspiron i7 multimedia laptop (because I am very nostalgic and haven't unpacked the new Alienware Ryzen desktop PC I have in my cupboard until this laptop breaks). In fact when I saw the screenshots on this very page, I didn't think this it would run - as this old laptop doesn't run anything well that looks like it uses the Unreal engine 4+. But I took a chance because the price is cheap, and I couldn't believe my eyes. It looks like PS5 graphics on this old laptop in some ways, the framerate, whilst not buttery smooth is very acceptable, just on smooth and playable. The environments look absolutely *gorgeous* including light and shadow rendering. I didn't understand how it could possibly run so good when other high end FPS run jagged on this beast. On further investigation it seems that the environments are apparently pre-rendered (but not a static picture at all - quite obvious 3D models that move), it doesn't look pre-rendered to me as the camera is dynamic and moves around each scene as you move. But I suppose it is in a modern sense - as between each room/area there is a short loading time - just like the old resident evil classics. The programmers are very technically skilled. This game is a lovely, random surprise. Even if you have an old rig, give this game a whirl.

A new hope

I'm a big fan of the classic Resident evil and Silent Hill games. After playing through them all multiple times I wished for something similar to play, so I searched everywhere for games like them. I ended up with a lot of Ps1 and 2 games. Some pretty damn great, many mediocre or bad. At some point this fountain died down too so I thought my time as a survival horror gamer is finally over, since most new games went other ways, Capcom made big bank with the RE1 Remake again, but decided to just go away from the gameplay style no matter what. However there was Steam and GOG left and a Indie community who heared my cries. First the fantastic Them and Us and now Tormented souls. I can only hooe for more in the future

wonderful classical survival horror

ohhh come on ..f*you ... NOW you pull up on GOG after i have bought the game on steam???!!! I wanted to buy it on switch as next! Well whatever ... i think 40$ is still just under the value what the game deserves .... but f*you for the late release on GOG!! The game itself is a wonderful classical survival horror game. The atmosphere, which is the most important with a horror game like this, is jaw-droppingly great. The entire game has maybe 2 jumpscares which are pretty late in to the game and at that point you really dont expect them, genius design choice! The Story is not that great, deep and existential like SH2 but it does not matter, because the atmosphere is pulling the most of the weight here. Dialogue and voice acting is clumsy but extremely charming at the same time. There are maybe 2 characters in the whole game, that you meet and this was a great (ans also cheap ;) ) choice, because it really strengthens the isolated loneliness. The weapons are really creative, i love them. The Combat is janky but it has to be ... this is not Bayonetta. The game has no inventory management, just like the SH games, i liked this too. Inventory tetris is not scary, its annoying. I have seen that the game gets a lot of criticism for using a "RE - ink ribbon" style save system. I think this is a great system for building stakes and tension and this is probably the right choice here. On the other hand, old farts like me, who cant always plan a gameing session it is not ideal. I think a game suspend would solve this issue. You can suspend the game anytime, but it does not count as a save. If you die you go back to the last save. The game suspend is one of the things i really like with the switch. Tormented Souls was a frikkin blast to play after these long years of waiting for a great survival horror game! I will buy the game on switch too (if performance is ok) BUT F*you for coming late on GOG ... love you though...THX for the game! Give us costumes and a DLC!

A true loveletter to old survival horror

TS is a game, which replicates the old Resident Evil and Silent Hill games gameplay and mechanicly wise. Technically fixed camera angles (but with the camera on a moving track as the player moves), standing still for combat, slow progression, less action and real riddles (not the RE4 established "find to stones put em together and done"-crap). And this game succeeds with that. It really gives you the feel of an old era game, but with some nice new additions. For example your inventory isnt limited and you have a quick-button for the map. Also you can make a quick-step back if you are under attack. But where the game really shines are the locations, or better the main location of the hospital: it really looks amazing. Good design and texture works blend in well together with ambient sounds and the soundtrack. It is giving you sometimes an unesing feel of something wrong. The difficulty of the game seems very well balanced to me: you are given enough ammo and medipacks when you need them and you will find a save-tape (yes! Saves are limited again! Wohoo!) in almost every save room to help you with the decision of "should I save now or later?" While the voice actors maybe sound bad, and the lines arent written that well, I have the believe that this was by intention: to replicate the B-movie charm of the old RE-titles. Maybe it helps, that the Devs arent english native speakers. Who knows. The major gripe I have with this game, is the lack of replayability. You arent unlocking a New Game + or a new difficulty (matter of fact: you only have one difficulty) or anything else. Which is a bit sad. And there are some questions open in the end, but maybe it is because of the writing ^^ I can recommend this game to those who like to replay the old survival style games or want to look into it. It is way more beginner friendly than the original resident Evil or the remake of it.

Good classic-style survival horror

If you like survival horror in the style of Resident Evil or Silent Hill, you should definitely give this game a try. It is not perfect, it has optimization problems, some bug (that does not prevent you from playing the whole game) and it has things that those who have played more modern games will not like, such as the control of the type of tank or the save. system that is limited to the use of some tapes that must be used in specific locations. The combat system is in the style of the survival horrors mentioned above, don't expect great mechanics in this regard. If you are willing to accept all of this, you should have no problem enjoying this horror game. It is not a big-budget game, you have to understand that it has been developed by a small and modest studio located in Chile, that is why I think that these shortcomings and certain defects are understandable to some extent, I even think that it has much more merit for having achieved make a game that looks so good considering the budget and limited means. The only flaw I see is that it has very little extra content to encourage repetition (although the first time can last around 12 hours), but considering that it is not too expensive, I think that what it offers is good in relation to what it costs
