Tangledeep will tangle lots of your time

I have backed this game on Kickstarter and played it many hours now. The game feels a little like the game Eschalon: Book I+II+III except everything is happening in a Trapped underground town where you need to go down in the dungeon. There are 2 modes in this game: 1. “Heroice Mode” when you die you die and only the things in you have in stashed goods and town progress is saved. This is what it was in the beginning and the originally idea of the game. 2. “Adventure Mode” In the later versions the version this came and it will return you to town and lose the level XP you were working on + unspent points JP (Job points) used to learn abilities and half the money. I definitely prefer Heroice Mode. It keeps me more alert. There is 9 different characters to pick from in the beginning there was only 3. The way you pick your character is little like “Neverwinter Nights” you get skills “JP” (Job points) used to learn abilities compared to what type you pick and you also get to pick 2 yourself and when you level up pick a new one and more to come after each level. It is deep and very well made this part is 5 stars. Gameplay: It is turn based the way the Eschalon series is. You take one movement and the dungeon crawl do the same. But remember that some are really fast and can move 2 when you only move one. There is a town where you can talk with people (not much) have your stash and buy new things like a standard town. There is a dungeon you need to go down in to start the game, where all the challenges awaits. The dungeon changes and is not the same every time. There is teleport you can make like in Diablo. The combat is slow paced but it depends on how fast you move. There is loot and secrets and a lot more going on and you plan is to figure out what is going on as you have lost all memory. This part needs to be good in a game like this else it will fall apart. Lucky for me when playing this it is captivating. I can play hours and hours before I need to take a break. But it is not “just one more turn”. It is great and this part will get 4 stars. (it is in development still so this can change to a 5) Sound: The effects are good but the Music is beautiful and captivating. This get 5 stars. Overall, I will like to give 4 stars,as it is still in development. lots has happened since the first build I played. I could have written a lot more of the game but I will let you experience it for yourself.

Roguelike were the loop disappoints

This game goes all in on the gameplay but the balance is off. When playing roguelikes the game needs to feel like there are moments of risk, since this is a turn based based game where strategy is key those moments need to feel like your choices matter. Tangledeep does not manage to live up to expectation in these areas, the game feel very grindy, most gameplay feel like a slog where winning is not based on your skills but on your tenacity to play careful and defensive when most the game can just simply be speedrun. The game doesn't really feel like it is build around being turn based strategy game, the way the abilities feel and the game flows is more like hack and slash. This makes for frustrating gameplay were most of your time will be spend mindlessly murdering critters with no need for strategy or thinking(but it will still take a long time ofc), when a particularly strong monster appear you can simply just teleport away. When those rough monsters appear and you slow down and try to think you pretty much end up doing the same think you did mindlessly, because better options simply doesn't exist. The strategic options are extremely limited and the actual playing is not enjoyable.

An excellent Rogue!

This is one of the best rogues I've played lately. I love the genre, and have played them all. This game is not even finished and it shines with tender loving care. The developers have obviously put their best work in to make it all they envisioned. This is one of my few reviews, as I seldom feel motivated to comment. In this case I have very little to rate as bad. It is not finished, so it can only get better. Good job. P.S. If you don't like or understand rogues, then don't review them Mr badoldrobot.

Great rogue like, even for beginners.

I saw an article on this game and thought it looked cute, and craving another binding of isaac type roguelike I was intrigued. There's technically three modes in the game, two include various types of permadeath and one lets you keep your character. When I can keep my character, I usually like to so I picked the adventure mode. The game still encourages you to recreate characters on that save file by letting you keep the stuff you banked (at least, it did for me!) So I got to start a new character with two legendary items which helps you greatly. For me at least this is really cool because I can play through a bunch of the game as one character, unlock some stuff for that save slot (jobs, starting traits, etc.), and start over and you're a little more powerful. One thing that is especially cool about this game is the RPG element of "jobs" your character can have. I started as a hunter and was able to pick up some skills from a summoning class to help me as sometimes the amount of mobs on the screen is a little overwhelming (I'm more of a beat 'em up directly than strategic player which I blame on myself, not the difficulty of the level :P) The soundtrack is really nice. I generally don't comment on game music unless I find it particularly well done, and although chiptune type sound is overdone these days, I found that the songs were stuck in my head hours after I was done playing it for the day which is saying a lot. One of my favorite tracks sounds like something right out of Wild Arms. As I write this it is still in early access, and I haven't tried the beta version or pretend to know what's coming when it's officially released, but I can say that as a lurker on the development team's discord server that I feel as though the team is hard at work producing, fixing, tweaking, and improving the game.

This game rocks!

I'm having a blast playing this game, love everything in it. I'm fairly young, and I love nice graphics, and I'm more combat oriented type of gamer, but oh, this game rocks! It's not just combat, it has female protagonist and plenthora of content and magic which are definitely bonus points! Love rpgs and now I guess I love rogue-likes!
