A bit like house of cards

The game is about the leader of the biggest party in a fictive country during the cold war era. This country is located between 5 other countries (+ connections to two fictional western and eastern superpowers), which have different political orientations and viewpoints regarding your country. Having to deal with a lot of intern and extern poitical difficulties, as well as trying to keep a family does make the game quite a challenge. I played the game several times and i liked it a lot: there is a lot of backstabbing and people interested in politics will be able to enjoy it. If you liked "house of cards", you might like this game, too. You have to make a lot of decisions and you can never be sure, which outcome you have to expect. What i did not like, was, that it is quite short! You play only for one term (4 years), the main goal is to be reelected, but you cannot continue to play then. Even as i played it for several times in the urge to "win", i have a playtime of less then 22 hours. One playthrough is maybe 6-8 hours, its a lot less, when ignoring the story and just concentrating on the decisions. And i did not like the strange outcomes: leading the biggest party with 60% of the votes in the first term and as i were able to banish poverty, decrease unemployment a lot, gave free housing and free medical care and lowered the pension age, i still lost in the next vote to some leftist opposite party. When i did win, i did not win because of my political achievements. Still, i liked it a lot, as the game gave me quite the lessons in the field of negotions. The grafics are minimalistic and there are no videos. Everything happens via text, so you have to read a lot. The story makes sense and I encountered no bugs. So, i was able to enjoy the game. A problem is: i doubt, that i will spent a lot more time in this game, as i have seen most of it.

One of the best games that I've played

This is an amazing game that gets you up close and personal with the world of economics and politics (and politicians). As a newly elected president of the state in turmoil, you have to solve piling problems of your country: recession, poor education and health systems, refugees and minority problems, corruption inside your ranks and potential aggression from the neighbours. All that in the form of a well-written novel full of meaningful and hard choices (you can think of "House of Cards"), unlike some almost abstract social models from the "Democracy" series. Thus, having all of the economical and political tapestry explained at this level is really helping to understand how the system works and how early decisions may (very logically) backfire later in the changing circumstances. How every decision comes at a price and how difficult it is to persuade all sides of conflict to your cause. Also the depiction of a personal life of the main character helps to relate more to the "human side" of the game (The Minister of Justice is so nya! ^_^ (sorry)). In many troubling aspects the country portrayed in this game is similar to my own, so I can relate a lot to what happens in the narrative. But I think it's a great educational material for everyone who wants to get a better feel of how "Economics rules" (there's a book by that name). But it's not without flaws, unfortunately. Trying to merge a story with a realistic economic model made the game inconsistent for me in the end. On my first run I was having 16% GDP growth, small and medium businesses flourish, unemployment down from 20 to 5%, corruption and organized crime almost eradicated, advanced education and good health systems, minorities and women rights support, I had won party elections BUT still got protests AND was couped by the military. Wut? Still, the game got me hooked right from the start, and I'd say it's one of the best out there!

Trust no one

Suzerian is a political choose your own adventure that leaves you a paranoid wreak, clinging to power on broken fingernails. Everyone has an agenda, everyone wants a piece of you. Make alliances and shady backdoor deals, try to keep your marriage afloat, juggle the needs of various factions, and become Sorland's saviour... or its tyrant. The gameplay boils down to choosing between dialogue options, leaning heavily on the writing and worldbuilding, which are excellent.

Presidential RPG

You play as the newly elected President of Sordland. There's an economy to fix, a consitution to rewrite and the next election to win against the backdrop of rising international tensions. But this isn't a 4x game or a grand strategy game. It's a text based game in which you build relationships with other politicians, oligarchs and judges, as well as your wife and family. This gives weight and context to your decisions through the well-written characters around you. In this way the game does of fantasic job of making you really feel like the president as a person, instead of disembodied hand guiding the nation. The game has no voice acting, the map is functional and the music is well done, staying in the background most of the time but ramping up to empasise key decisions and emotional speeches. There are some places where I felt a middle option was missing or where I wasn't sure exactly what I was agreeing to, but this only happened a couple of times in my 10 hr or so playthough. I expect I will come back to the game to play through again!
