Decent spooks...

Well, I did certainly like playing this, it has a good atmosphere and some good scare. However, the game feels like it does pull its punches. By which I mean, it isn't very hard. The scary ghost that chases you is only ever part of a setpiece- meaning, while you just walk around trying to figure out what to do, you can ignore the hide-closets. They're only used when you trigger a scare event, and then they protect you basically without fail, causing the pursing monster to disappear until next time. Puzzles are likewise not too tough especially as you get help with them, but there's a few where you might beat yourself up forever because you can easily miss puzzle items some time. The only hard part is the "final boss" which is a giant pain to deal with. Just so much, it isn't a straight up fight - the game has no combat. And lastly - It is waaay short, no replayability, no alternate endings, no choices. You don't get a lot of bang for your buck as it stands. Even the "collectables" should be all easy to find the first time around, if there's even an option to miss them. I'm sure certain letters must be picked up to enable progress. So, while I did like it, the price certainly needs to be cut down a lot.

Not that bad, but not that good, either.

I'd have to give this game a Meh + (that's Meh plus - as in a little better than "meh"). Truth be told, I still love this particular genre. You know the one: The key-finding, puzzle-solving, closet-hiding, evil-hag-escaping, jump-scare and trope laden, walking simulator set in an old, abandoned mansion genre. It's been worn out, I know. But I love them when they are done right. And Silver Chains actually does get one or two things right. The artwork and the atmosphere are both splendid. I wouldn't change a thing. This mansion is every bit as creepy and realistic as the mansion in Dark Occult, aka The Conjuring House. However, just as with Dark Occult, it feels like the artwork and atmosphere came first and the story came second, quickly spun up and spit out, serving as little more than a reason to present such great artwork and atmosphere. The puzzles are kinda "meh" too. Not a whole lot of new ground is broken here (and yes, of course, there is a ouija board. What key-finding, hag-evading, puzzle-solving, walking simulator game would be complete without a ouija board somewhere, right?) My biggest problem with Silver Chains, however, is the same problem I have with all games in this particular genre, which is the lack of a combat system. Heck, I would even feel satisified with just a simple punch and kick system, or being able to pick up an axe or a shovel and swing it around. Add in a dodge or block and that's all you need. At least it would be SOMETHING. The game of repeatedly avoiding a one hit kill monster has got the be the part of the old mansion key-finder games that is getting the oldest and most worn out. It's just not that hard to implement a small combat system. Heck, give the player a magic, silver fire-poker that can send the one-hit kill monster back to the other side for a few minutes with a well-timed hit. Something besides running back to a closet or safe room. Anyway, that's about all.

Very repetitive

Very frustrating to have to revisit places again and again. Some things are impossible to do without help from You Tube... It has jump scares but most horror games too. Outlast is a far superior game to this...

Don't waste your time

It's your typical boring walking simulator with the occasional cheap jump scares and "puzzles". It's uninspired, short, forgettable and way overpriced for what it is.
