The Silent Storm series brings you two complete games that both provide with you a wealth of turn-based combat against the backdrop of World War II and beyond. It’s the year 1943 and you must lead a group of operatives as they assault against the enemy, wreak havoc on their operations, and find out what new power threatens both sides. After the dust settles from the war’s end, you must find and destroy the remnants of the organization known as “Thor’s Hammer.”
Silent Storm Gold features a fully destructible 3D world with ragdoll physics and non-linear gameplay. Play the game your way: engage in stealth and quietly take out your enemies or take the more direct route with a rocket launcher. Choose from over 40 operatives in each game, for a total of 80 unique personalities and skills, and arm them with over 75 different authentic and painstakingly-researched weapons. As far as squad command turn-based strategy games go, this one will surprise you with its great complexity and fantastic alternate reality setting.
This bundle includes S2: Silent Storm and S3: Silent Storm - Sentinels add-on.
Destructible environment opens up tactical options, whether it’s flushing an enemy out of a building via rocket launcher or knocking holes in a wall to make a field-expedient shortcut.
Multiple paths to complete the mission. Use brute force or stealth tactics across 3 different difficulty levels.
Unprecedented realism featuring true 3D, a fully destructible environment, and real projectile physics that take into consideration trajectory, speed, and piercing performance.

I´m happy to say, that this is the one of the best games I have ever played. It is a truly a mental sequel of Jagged Alliance 2. They haven´t done better games in this genre after this games. Real physics, different options for players and non-linear gameplay. This is not advertise but I promise - this game you don´t want to miss!
**First of all I have to say that this game has so many nice features that I will try to enlist them all without writting so much (sorry if I do, but believe me, it's worth it to know ALL this games has to offer!)**
I remember I was looking for a game that was similar to the epic X-Com: UFO Defense and after the semi-deception I got from UFO:Trilogy, I stumble upon S2:SS and I end up getting one of the nicest surprises ever as I realized this game is not a carbon copy but it has it's own well deserved earned merits as this is a game packed with very nice innovative ideas and well enhanced gameplay and story line (yes, it has a STORY LINE and a very well told one) that fits into WW2.
After playing it for a while, I was a little bit confused with it's slightly different gameplay, but in a very short time I was able to get into it so smoothly that I didn't even realize that I was now planning and executing very effective and fun tactics in every scenario. And that's where this game marks one of the many difference from X-Com, cause S2:SS is not only about "hide and seek" or "everyone stay still and use a bait to lure enemy into a trap", but you can even load up heavy guns, pack some grenades and let mayhem loose and believe me you will definately feel it, cause scenarios are almost completely destructible (one more reason why you can't just stay behind something and wait for enemies to come to you), so you'll really feel the "power of weapons of mass destruction" in your hands *place evil laugh here* or you'll decide what's best to fit with you since you have here snipers, assault troops, trap setting/disarming experts, MEDICS (you can guess what this implies, right?), stealth masters (picture this: a WW2 asian commando packed with a SMG, a Lugger looted from a high ranked officer and a Katana with some Shurikens instead of the classic and som how monotone silent gun and a knife cliché). Kill your enemies or just take them down with non-lethal weapons. All this multiple tactics are possible due to it's descent A.I. which is more challenging than the one in X-Com cause here you have more ways to finish your enemy (so they do to finish YOU, hehe) and due to the nice and coherent variety of weapons in this WW2 set up. Also you have different levels of difficulty to choose from.
Every commando has life on it's own cause they have their background story. You will learn to love them and hate them (but you will never want them to die cause you'll realize you'll need them for different scenarios).
Scenarios are approached in 2 ways: One spot marked in the world map (explained with a previous plot cut scene) or random encounters which are visible to you in the same map so you can engage them (for experience, weapons, ammo, etc) or avoid if you want to go straight and finish the game (but you'll miss some very fun fights, believe me, like one in a tree-covered-stealth-provider forest against a pack of ninjas... NINJAAAS =D
One good or bad aspect of the game are the loved or hated "Panzerkliens (PKs)". Ok, well, I won't speak to you about them so much now cause they are part of the main plot and since I don't want to spoil anything here, I will just tell you to go over the game as it is the first time and if you don't like them, know there are always MODs to change this and some other stuff from the game and this is why I end up not giving all the 5 stars, and due to other minor things (not worth mention since they are "minor").
So here you are, I mentioned the main features and there are even more to name but it's up to you to find them and believe me, you'll have fun doing it, so just get it and prepare for many hours of FUN playing as the Allies or the Axis (both sides rock) ENJOY =)
These two games are amongst the best at providing squad-based, turn-based tactical combat. So glad to see them here in an easy format for modern machines. Insta purchase.
I agree with much of what has been said here previously. I'm among those who don't like the Panzerklein. Easy solution: mod them out with the following links, if they haven't been posted previously:
Silent Storm:
http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/no-panzerklein-modification-s2/
Silent Storm Sentinels:
http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/no-panzerklein-modification-s3/
Just unpack those zipped files (move the entire folder with the mod name) into the game's main directory. Then, launch the game and install the mod by selecting "custom game" from the game's main screen, prior to starting a new game. No more Panzerklein.
Cheers.
Definitely one of the best turn based strategies...well..maybe not of all time, but there were no better TBS around 2004... The physics, havok engine, lots of weapons, this all makes this game so great, that I will probably buy it agaon, even that I have the original box version... :-)
I have played it when it was first released and enjoyed it immensely. I was looking for this game for years until I have managed to get hold of a copy from a long forgotten and near dead computer store. Then, today I saw it released in gog...
Let me tell you something first, panzerkleins. They do not botch the game totally, you can turn them off with a mod and personally I don't think they are that much of a problem. Overkill, yes. Too strong, yes. But they are made to be that strong and a tool which would change the tide of war in the game universe.
The ragdoll physics, truly destroyable scenes (no you don't fire rockets to a building which contains a hostage you must rescue or the floors collapse and the dude dies... instant mission fail and yes it did happen to me), bright a.i. and most importantly actual ww2 weaponry, skills and leveling up.
The game will extremely reward you for putting hours in it. Random encounters are here and they reward you well, some of the overkill weaponry can only be found like this. Sentinels make you to do the random missions because, this time you have to buy the equipments.
I love this game and play in every computer I've owned and not regretting it. And now, seeing it on gog made me lose the fear of damaging the cds. Thank you for providing this underlooked gem to the masses.
