Sid Meier’s Railroads!

Many people complain about how the game is not the same as Railroad Tycoon 3. The Railroad Tycoon series was not made by the same developer, and Sid Meier's Games have always been made to be semi-cartoonish compared to the RT series which aimed for a more serious approach to railroad simulators. I have also seen complaints about having to micromanage tracks and trains, etc. If people would pay attention to what they are doing when they set up games, they would notice that there is a track routing difficulty setting which allows you to make it so trains pass through each other, or set it to be realistic, so trains have to wait until a piece of track is open before they can move. Sid Meier's Railroads is a more fast-paced head-on business/railroad simulator game. When playing against opponents, you not only have to complete the objectives, but have to out-produce your opponents and buy up your own company stock before your competitor buys you out. Railroads is a fun game to pass the time, and with the random starting locations, the game can be different every time you play it adding to the replayability. My only issue with Sid Meier's Railroads are the bugs that cause the game to crash that were never fixed, or even addressed. Even with the game crashes, I always seem to return to the old games like this, Pirates!, and Evil Genius. It is definitely my recommendation that anyone who likes railroad simulation games to try this game out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I can't play it, too many crashes. The number 1 reason for said crashes I found out on Google was the "Large Address Awareness" flag not being present in the Railroads,exe. However, after checking the exe, I found it had that flag already present, so Good Old Gog is on their game and fixed that already. So that is not the problem, and I could not find another reason for general crashing through google. So, that's it basically, the game is fantastic and highly addictive, but I can't play most of the maps, except the U.S. maps (game crashes before loading those other maps) and even when it does let me play the U.S. maps, the game crashes randomly and repeatedly.

I have this on steam, a great fun non-serious train game. However constant crashes after a certain point ruin it's replayability. I will defininatley decide to buy it on GOG if the find the time to fix it.

Running this on a Windows 10 64 bit machine without any issues thus far. I actually went to manually apply the 0F 01 to 2F 01 hex fix to fix the crashing and it appears to already be applied. I've played the game for about 5 hours this evening without any crashing. I always found this game entertaining. I can easily waste a few hours moving cargo around.

I played this tons when it first came out, and am back to playing it again. The game is great fun. The empire building is a bit more simplistic than other games, but that's a good thing if you want a light diversion. The trains have good detail and the camera ride-along is cool. Rating the game based on comparisons to RC3 is idiotic. Thats like saying I really liked the new Star Trek movie, but wish it had Yoda and Darth Vader. Rate the game based on the game itself. I did have a couple crashes when playing on Win7 32bit, primarily when laying track. Playing on 64bit however has been pretty clean.
