A true FPS that brings you back

Retro FPS Fans will find themselves back in their old shooter shoes with the games run and gun style of action gameplay. If you're looking for story, and realism you won't find it here. If you're looking for a dark, gritty, brutal and just outright BLOODY experience, you've come to the right place. Whether you were a fan of the original game, or you are just sick and tired of the hand-holding, story telling shooters of today, you will feel right at home. The game can appear glitchy at times, with a strange lunge knifing system that you will often miss with and the hit boxes can be a little funny as well. I have seen some clipping with enemies poking through walls, but that is rare. This isn't a type of game to stop and smell the roses. This is a blood pumping, WASD-SPACEing, trigger itching gorefest. However, players that DO stop and look at the high texture detailed models, will often get a chuckle at times. I shall not post any spoilers here though, as I do not believe in ruining humor before it is experienced. All in all, this is a great game. With many references to the old game. There are times where you feel it is a bit TOO much like the old game, but I do like that they even added a "Classic" mode within the sounds, to bring back the old soundtrack, rather than the metal (albiet GREAT) remakes. To put it simply, an old game with a new face. Enjoy!

Not as good as the original

Levels feel to small. Lots of clipping issues. Hard to spot enemies. You get fired on and you just don't know who or what. General darian's lair not as good as original. No quicksave but checkpoints. Movement feels odd. Speed is good as the original was fast. If you want slower, choose Doug Wendt as character as he walks the slowest and has most health. Multiplayer is fun, but i miss the original's game modes. Tag, collect triads etc. Game feels like a rushed mod. It is still fun, but I rather play the original with winrott. Hopefully patches will improve the game in some ways. I will keep my hopes up.

Manufactured Hype

I'm a big enough fan of old school FPS games. I adore One Unit Whole Blood, I like Duke Nukem 3D and the Doom games, I found Exhumed/Powerslave (on console, the PC game of the same name was sadly awful) to be an incredible experience. But this thing, this is half-finished at best. It has performance issues yet looks extremely garish. It has no sense of style or coherency. It has gameplay issues (hit or miss melee detection, dodgy iron sight systems, broken damage direction indicator, poor AI with hitscan weapons, flat level design, and so on). If the game it's based on is great like some of the games in my first paragraph (I haven't played it) I recommend playing that instead of this re-imagining. Hard Reset (from the same developers, right?) wasn't a great game but at least it felt finished, polished, it didn't have iron sights with weird zoom in/out behaviour and its world had a coherent look where every element blended in decently enough. I've played through a few levels of this game's Steam version and I just can't keep going. It's bad. This is not how a classic FPS should return. Go replay One Unit Whole Blood instead, it has similar b movie tones (but on the horror side) yet is far more successfully presented and leagues ahead in gameplay. And it looks better than this 2013 game. Seriously. Don't listen to the marketing shills.

Good but....

It is definitely a good game and a demanding one as well when you compare it to other dumbed down FPS titles on the market. Sadly, it has some flaws that might prevent some people from fully enjoying the title. First of all, the game as some issues engine wise. Problems with game loading, problems with distortion effect completely hanging up the entire PC. It is a DX9 game with a 32bit client so I would expect it to be better optimized. It runs well but it could definitely run even better and more smoothly. Continuing, the sounds and the voice acting...not really convincing. Enemie voices are dull and totally not convincing. Same goes with the gun sounds. Not really the meaty and juicy thing I was expecting. Player characters voices are ok and fun to listen to but the lines are repeated so often that eventually it gets boring and even annoying. Movement is fast, too fast for some people. It is difficult to spot the enemy due to the color scheme of the entire game. Enemies just blend into the backgrounds like god damn predators. Level design is really good. Many secret areas to discover. Weapons...well...not many of them. Pistol, dual pistols, good old MP40 and tons of rocket launchers everywhere. There are some cool weapons like the magical bat etc but...doesn't feel good enough. Most of the time you just run around the levels and shoot enemies who sound like they are bored with life...something is missing here...

Major let down

I'll make this quick. I'm a huge fan of the original game and a fellow Dane, so I really wanted this game to be good. The problem is, while the team behind the game made sure to closely imitate a lot of details about the original, they don't seem to have much understanding of gameplay. The playable characters all move insanely fast, despite most environments being cramped and most enemies even standstill much of the time. Mostly your are under machinegun fire, which can't be dodged anyway AND you will be hit constantly without even being able to see where it comes from, since the tiny enemies blend in with the environments. This one is a flat out game breaker for me. I like the updated soundtrack, but the graphics are bland and just look like any old shitty WW2 shooter from around 2000. No visual flair what so ever. Compare the flame wall kill animation in this with the original: Without words; that will say all you need to know about the blandness of this remake compared to the original.
