Parkan: Iron Strategy

Aside from some performance issues and wacky, at times, controls, this game still holds up for what it was: a very well-made Russian RTS/FPS hybrid. I really like this mixture of genres, and I always was a fan of the setting. As far as I know there's no English translation of the lore files? Because those give a completely new angle at everything that happened in the game, and gives more insight on the fate of poor Donald Ballen. My major problem with the game was purely technical: it refuses to see my dedicated GPU and instead uses the built-in (i am on an HP Pavilion g6 laptop). If there is any solution to this, I'd be happy to hear from fellow Parkan fans or even the Devs.

This used to work fine on modern systems. However, presumably there was a Windows 10 update a while back which broke the game, since I (and others) can no longer play this - it crashes on launching a mission. The game itself is a 5/5 for me (nostalgic bias, perhaps), but this version is 1/5 as it simply doesn't work. GOG - please fix!

Honestly I haven't played it before, I'm playing it in 2025 for the first time and it's surprisingly good and interesting. It has an engaging story and a very addictive FPS/RTS blending gameplay. It's a great game.

it does not work in windows 10 but goes into a mission and crashes right away. that problem have existed since modern systems. it will only work in 95 or windows 98.
