Really good at what it does (controller required)

I saw how mediocre the rating currently is, which made me write this short review. This game may not be for everyone but if you have a controller you should just watch a few minutes of gameplay to decide if you might be interested in such a game. In this game you need to learn a few tricks to even get through a level but (with a controller) they weren't as hard as other people here claimed. It may be the case that you need one but if that's the case, then that's completely alright because the game actually uses the capabilities of the joystick well! Controllers are a very good match for this game. I found this game incredibly fun. For me, the experience it was comparable to but much better than, say, the sonic games I've played as a child. I found the levels fast paced, well designed and very fun and I liked to learn new tricks and beat new levels with a bit of skill. This is a definite recommendation for everyone who finds the idea of such a game appealing.

ADDICTIVE

Super simple core gameplay, speed along side scrolling jumping over and on to things, but with the huge trick library and unique controls it will take some time to master. Recommended as a diversion game.

Great fun! Tight controls.

I haven't finished the game yet, so if anything happens to change my opinion I will come back and edit this review. So far, though, I'm really happy with this purchase. OlliOlli is highly addictive, but in a good way -- I don't feel like it's cynically exploiting my brain's reward circuitry like some games. It's just built on a really well-designed set of mechanics that are fun to learn and execute, backed up by solid level design and a fitting aesthetic. It keeps me playing longer than I intend, but leaves me feeling happy, not regretful. The challenge curve has been great so far -- hard enough to be satisfying, but not too frustrating, and I haven't stagnated yet. In my opinion the controls are excellent, at least on the Xbox 360 gamepad I'm using. I think the issue pointed out by one reviewer -- the spin and trick modifier buttons being identical -- is actually a decent piece of design. You have to get the timing right, certainly, but I never get the feeling that the game is being inconsistent or unfair.

Addictive and Puzzle Like

I've been playing Olli Olli on the PS4 since 2014 on and off and in that time me and my closest friend still manage to complete new challenges, most recently unlocking Rad Mode. Olli Olli is a side scrolling 2D skating games made up of 5 levels each with "5" stages. I say "5" because really theres are 20 stages per level. Amatuer, Pro, Rad and a combo run. If you complete all the challenges on a stages Amatuer rank you then unlock the pro challenges and thus a new variation of that stage. If you're insane enough like me and my friend and complete all am and pro challenges you unlock rad mode which makes you run all the levels again with only perfect landings. There is a serious amount of challenge here that could last quite some time if you casually play it. Becuase of this the levels almost act like puzzles. You'll bail - a lot - but you eventually learn the layout of a stage and think about the best way to clear it with the highest score. Using a controller is reccomenders as the analogue stick is used to flip your board and quick access to the shoulder buttons make grinding a lot easier. Olli Olli 1 doesn't have the ability to combo every level, however since it doesn't manuals aren't in the game. They are, however, in Olli Olli 2 and visually it is much more dull than it's sequel. It does not detract from the experience, you will be glad to know. I honestly cannot reccomend this game enough. A fond classic.

overall addictive.

nice stylish graphics, frustrating but at the same time fun level design, high replay value and a very very small amount of songs, they are good, very good actualy but they are just like 4 or 5 songs :/ kind of repetitive in that way
