Description
Squeeze into your toga and slide on your sandals to rally the angry mobs of Okhlos: Omega and bring down the oppressive god of mythological Greece! Your beloved people will not longer stand for the abuse from their deities and take up arms against them and taking down anything and everything in their path. Topple the beastly minotaur, bring down sacred temples, and confront the almighty Olympians themselves while recruiting and balancing your unruly mob with warriors, peasants, slaves and even livestock in their quest for freedom from Mount Olympus! It’s total anarchy in the birthplace of democracy!

The people are angry and have united behind the noble philosophers to do their bidding to take down the soldiers, mythical beasts and temples under the control of the twelve vile gods.

Carefully recruit your followers from warriors, peasants, slaves and beasts of burden and unlock special units or swap units for one of 100 legendary heroes to upgrade the mob and increase their savagery. Wield the power of Heracles, Leonidas, Pandora, and Socrates to turn your mischievous gang into a formidable army!

Every campaign against the gods is different with changes to heroes, monsters, and bosses – and even the mob itself – each time you and your followers set out for battle. Traverse eight procedurally generated Greek cities and never fight through the same world twice!

Make your way through all manner of beasts, warriors, and demi-gods to arrive at the feet of the maleficent Olympians and unleash the power of the people in epic boss battles set against ancient ruins before they were ancient!

Okhlos...Review?

Okhlos was not a game I was expecting to be playing today, but regardless I found myself recruiting hordes of peasants and warriors alike in a mob based action beat'em up. The developer has managed to blend PS1 era looking 3D art with 2D spites, a game I can imagine looking at through rose tinted glasses if it were released back in the 90's. The premise is simple. Recruit followers to your cause of destruction and havoc across multiple ancient Greek cities fighting mobs and bosses as you go, and the game executes this simple idea excellently. The game has multiple types of followers available from just your lowly peasant to warriors and defenders, each with their own role, benefits and downsides. You can even have stray cats, dogs and other animals follow you on your adventures. I spent roughly three hours with game, but I certainly will be coming back for more as there are still more levels for me to explore and followers to unlock, the levels of which are semi-randomly generated but maintain a theme for each. The game has full support for 4K and gamepad support, as well as windowed mode but sadly no borderless mode. The only bugs I encountered while playing the game was a single frustrating crash as I brought a bosses health to its knees, and a strange bug with the underwater wooden platforms that are on the water levels, my character would get stuck around the edges of the object without any means of escape. Overall this game is a great pickup for the asking price with many hours of mindless fun ahead.

Mad Pikmins in toga without strategies

The idea behind Okhlos is great: take the command of a furious mob and fight your way through ancient Greece to take down Gods of Olympus. All that action in a very funny way with its share of destruction, onomatopoeia and colorful graphics. However I felt rather quickly without any challenge or strategies to think about. The first clues of this lack of depth are controls. You can move directly your leader with the keyboard and order the mod to move/attack/defend a specific location with the mouse. You can also run or regroup your plebs. It's nearly a copy and paste of Pikmin.... depth in less because you can't sort your mob. Of course you can check the forming of the mob or trade new units/plebs with some traders. But again the fact that you need to run over new units on the field makes team management ultra-limited and disappointing. Sorting the mob would have been great too especially for strategies or difficulty because Okhlos has not much ways to win especially with items that you can pick up and gives too powerful bonuses. 4 items in total, the powder keg deals damages directly, the shield gives a temporary invincibility, the meat regenerate all health point and the helm gives a bonus to moral. So even if you encounter enemies that deals damages with areas of effect (which are the nemesis of your mob) you can totally negate these effects by only guarding or using items at the appropriate time. Also the more units you have the better. As an example I could gather more than 10 items in total and I could have been able to hold my 50 units invincible during a whole boss fight... Compared to a game like Pikmin where enemies can split your units, trap them, change their attributes or even transform the terrain... Okhlos is far more limited even if it's a totally assumed action game. To conclude: I was a bit disappointed. Especially when I've beaten the last boss after my 3 first hours and with not many efforts. Secrets to find are still a good addition.

A riotous time in Ancient Greece

I didn't go into Okhlos expecting much, but had a supisingly good time with it. The mechanics are simple but intuitive enough to make gameplay fluid and enjoyable, and the pixel art style was done impeccably. In that regards, it reminded me a lot of Lakeview Cabin, which I also loved thoroughly. I can see the game getting repetitive eventually, but for the asking price, I think it's definitely worth a look if you're currently on the fence and unsure whether to give it a shot or not. For those that need that little bit of extra encouragement, I did a short video on it that can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeMlLsnMNLI Cheers everyone :)

Rogue-like Pikmin

I have this game on steam from a humble monthly bundle so it was a bit of chance that I found it. I know the term rogue-like is over used, but it speaks to the replayability the game has. It's short, it's simple, but it's fun and frantic. If you're the kind of person who likes a horde of minions to do your dirty work then this game is for you.

Chaotic Fun

The game is fun although I am not a fan of the controls it can be hard to control especially when you have a big mob. An example is on one of the maps I couldn’t avoid the traps and my troops kept dying with only attack and defend command with three formations(close normal and spread out), powerups and utility items game is still limited regarding what you can do. But nevertheless, it’s fun even when you have no idea what’s going on.
