Best of the best

While I liked MM6 and 7, this one was the absolute best out of the three (I have a special soft spot for it as it was the only one out of the three I ever managed to complete!) Let's break it down: THE GOOD: You can select from a wide range of characters (and species!) for your starting character, and you can hire and fire other members of your party, so you're no longer stuck with a group where nobody can repair an item. Just hire a knight, have him/her fix it and then get rid of 'em. You can hire dragons! While having dragons may make it a little too easy for some players, it's still a great touch and nice to get away from the 'all dragons are evil' thing The difficulty level is very good. In MM6 and 7 I found that I'd have to go away and kill several monsters in between quests just to level up enough to attempt the next part of the story. With this one, the difficulty level is just right; hard enough to be a bit of a challenge, but easy enough to keep right on going. The automap feature is VERY good, as is the ability to add your own entries. Fed up with not knowing which path leads to which new land? Can't remember where that Sword teacher was? Can't remember where to find the guy who'll pay you for Naga hides? Simply add a little dot on the map (the game will update it with teacher locations automatically) and you're sorted! THE BAD: In this version, there's no way to skip cutscenes. Not really a problem, but it bugs me a little that I have to sit through the same opening movie over and over again before I can get to the main menu. AND THE JUST PLAIN MISC: People have commented about the graphics. While it's true they aren't the best (even taking into account the fact that the game is over ten years old) they're adequate enough and the quality of the gameplay more than makes up for them. To summarize, this is a truly fantastic game and well worth a buy!

Great game but

Shuts down when I enter Escaton's Palace...every single time. Sucks to make it through the whole game and find you can't finish it.

Crashes at Escaton Palace...

Was really enjoying this game, reliving a classic, but when I get to the Escaton Palace it crashes every single time I go inside. Tried all sorts to get it to work. So frustrating to get so far in the game and not be able to finish it...!!!

Great, Classic M&M Fun

Just beat the game using 4 characters. This game is classic M&M fun, beginning to end. Plenty of quests, nice nonlinear gameplay, fun hidden treasures, a nice long leveling-up curve that will take you about 50 hours to complete. Good times for anyone who likes might & magic. The bad news? It's still essentially just MM6. Nothing new. The story is fun but not mind-blowing. Otherwise, though, it's good solid fun. So if you like Might & Magic, or just like good old classic RPGs, grab this one. You aren't on GoG.com for the grapihcs, so I know you'll enjoy it :) My Tips: -Don't use the dragon characters, they are too easy and take no skills. -Try beating the game with parties of 4, 3, 2, and 1 person, for extra fun. -The #1 way to increase your weapon speed is (a) GM Armsmaster skill - makes huge difference, and (b) GM your armor to eliminate speed penalty. Herald's Boots (of Speed) are always good, too. -The best artifacts are: Snake (sword that causes powerful slow effect), Guardian (halberd with lots of damage), Herald's Boots, Supreme Plate, Noblebone Bow (shoots fireballs for 20-30 damage!). The very first time you come across a full-fledged dragon (named, "dragon", "flight leader" or "great wyrm"), kill it, then multi-loot to get the artifacts you want (ie save and reload every time you loot multiple times). -Halberds are actually "spears" in terms of skills. So your Knight should GM both spear and sword, then just pump points into armsmaster. My knight Anna was attacking twice per second for 120-180 damage by the end of the game--awesome.

3,5 stars but still enjoyable game

Since my first experience was with sixth game, I see the eight episode as a bit mediocre. Day of the Destroyer is VERY easy compared to the two previous games (the dungeons here are for laugh only) and the another change of the rules and character creation made me even less happy. In sixth episode you could choose only from human race, but you had six classes to pick from. There was eight classes and four races in seventh game, but now race means class, so you have to choose between night elf, necromancer, knight, minotaur and vampire... Probably the most interesting aspect of the game is that you can hire up to four dragons as your companion (it's the only race you can't pick at the start) and you can play Arcomage from the very begining. On the other hand, if you want to collect treasure from the obelisc riddle, you have to wait until one specific day in the year and if you miss it, you have to wait. I have to admit that the graphic is better than the previous game and the music is still beautiful (maybe slightly less memorable than the previous soundtracks). Final verdict: great for less experienced gamers who want to get into Might and Magic saga, not so great for those who already played the previous games.
