Description

Mature content notice: Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry contains explicit language, strong sexual themes, partial nudity and is intended for mature audiences.

Hey ladies, I’m back in business! My new adventure, Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, takes me – whatever the route or twist of fate – from the end of the ’80s directly into the 21st century and wow, how the world has changed! While my view of the world and women from way back in the 1980s collides with modern reality harder than the breasts of a lusciously stacked blonde jogging along a beach, I’m all set to date my way across the modern world!

In a “point & click” adventure I’d call typical for the genre we mutually experience how I fall head-over-heels in love with Faith, the hot-to-trot assistant to the boss at Prune, a technology enterprise successful worldwide. Since even dating is done digitally nowadays, the first thing I have to do is to work on my score at Timber, the totally hip, can’t-get-anywhere-without-it dating app where I date women, satisfy their needs, and accordingly pick up points for my Timber profile. And whenever I get a chance in between, always briefly check out a few new bikini pix at Instacrap – the 21st century is gnarly smill!

  • Leisure Suit Larry is coming in the 21st century – and no, there’s no word missing here
  • Explore a lovingly designed, non-linear game world set in the modern world with over 30 handdrawn venues
  • Use “Timber”, the ingame app, along with an innovative dating mechanism to date women, consequently improve your score at Timber, and ultimately clear the way to get to Faith, the women of your dreams
  • Solve true-blue puzzles and interact with over 30 handdrawn characters

R.I.P Larry

As a kid who grew up in the naughty Nineties and loved PC adventure games, Leisure Suit Larry is one of my most adored video game characters of all time. Larry 7: Love for Sail is in my opinion the best adventure game ever created, I can't remember laughing so hard in a video game in all my life. Needless to say the monstrosity of that Box Office Bust thing is a mental scar I try and forget every day. But when I saw that Crazy Bunch were bringing Larry back to Lost Wages as a point-and-click adventure game it was like the sequel my younger self had been waiting for and surely a time portal back to a happy time. At first, I loved the setup, having Larry somehow emerge back in 21st Century Lost Wages, his unfamiliarity with the modern day creating many a funny gag. However, about 2-3 hours into the game I came to realise something.....Larry hadn't embarrassed himself somehow, he hadn't gotten himself into a risque situation with a hot chick, in fact where are the hot chicks that Larry is meant to woo? Rather, where has all the raunchiness gone??? It quickly dawned on me that this wasn't the Larry that I know or remembered. This was a very neutral, point-and-click cartoon adventure, with the sexual comedy dialled WAY down to the frigid reading. As a big Larry fan back in the day, it saddens me to say that Larry has become a casualty of the politically-correct, overly-sensitive euphoria that is crushing all sense of humour in the Western World. The puzzles are fun and challenging, the jokes hit the mark on occasion, but eventually they were not enough to hold me. Box Office Bust notwithstanding, this is the only "Larry game" that I didn't finish, except it isn't a Larry game. Unfortunately it's just a cheap, dull animated story that you will soon tire of and make you weep for the sad environment that Larry has been resurrected in.

Leisure Suit Larry - Errand Boy

Very disappointing. There is no story to speak of, the game consists of Larry rushing from one place to the other running errands for people that continuously move their goal-posts. Person A: I need this! Larry: Done! Person A: OK, but now I also need this! Larry: Done! (after having needed to help Persons B and C to get what he needs to help Person A) Person A: Right, but I just realized that I also need this! Rinse and repeat the above ad nauseum. There is no naturally flowing story to speak of. All the puzzles and challenges feel so contrived If you are a fan of the classic Sierra / Lucasarts adventure games, then this probably isn't for you. Didn't do it for me.

So where are the jokes?

People bash Cum Laude a lot, but there was some great comedic writing in it (when you weren't forced to do repetitive mini games). This...has no jokes. 15 minutes and no jokes. You approach some hipster girl (who doesn't look one bit like a hipster) and she asks you if you're on "Instacrap" and "Farcebook". Are those the jokes? Can you even count those as jokes? This is sub-Rockstar levels of satire here. I'm not sure how much further I made it, but I do know there weren't any jokes before I gave up. When it's not throwing "wacky" parody names at you, the humor is so non-present and the dialog so awkward that you quickly realize that this game was not made by English as a first language authors. I would rather go through a dozen Cum Laude mini-games than hear another wacky social media parody pun like the "Timber" dating app.

Good Adventure, not a faithful sequel

Well, I have played the German version, the experience may be different with a different language setting. From a mechanical standpoint the game is a solid adventure, the art is nice. It has all the advantages of modern grafic adventures with doubleclick moving instant to the next screen and pressing the middle mouse button displays all the hotspots. The puzzles in the game require require some amount of adventure game logic and the game usually gives a nice amount of hints how to solve them, but in some cases I may have overlooked those hints. The biggest problem I have with the game is that it doesn't fit into the series, and personally I'm counting magna cum laude and box office bust to the series. It's more Deponia 5 with a Larry sprite swap. This game is more a whaky politically correct cartoon with lots of dildos than the sleezy original. Where the older Larrys broke the 4th wall "Wet Dreams don't dry" finds an in universe explanation for it. The game is catering to a political left audience with being a bit preachy about tolerating a persons sexual orientation while at the same time moking people for being straight. So it's a solid adventure game with nice puzzles and some funny scenes, but is Larry back, no.

Fake Larry with Bugs and Privacy Issues

Fake Larry: There is no relation to classic Larry games except for the use of certain names and places of LSL1, obviously just to form some kind of connection to the classic Larry games. Not even one humorous moment in the entire game and absolutely no adult content inside! Bugs: This game features cheap development based on Unity. Animations are very limited, e.g. you don't see items that you exchange with another character, both characters do some magic hand moves instead. The low quality can also be observed by some initialization bugs when switching to Timber where you see your profile and can rate it left or right. They did not fix that even after the sequel is out ?! Privacy Issues: The game uses Unity's user tracking feature, does not tell you and does not present the opt-out option. Selling this product in Europe does violate GDPR, so it's illegal! Publisher and Developer should be banned from GOG. To sum it up, not recommended, even if it's on sale with 80% off
