Description
Kitaria Fables is a delightfully cute action adventure RPG with farming and crafting! Enter the cute world of Kitaria and take on the quests of your animal neighbours as they face a rising tide of darkness. Real time combat, exploration and dungeoneering sit alongside farming for provisions and the crafting of weapons and armour, and forging new spells to increase your power.

A peaceful land where nature lives in harmony - until now. As the wildlife around Paw Village becomes increasingly aggressive, The Empire has called upon you to investigate and defend its citizens. Make your way to Paw Village to your Uncles home, and from your new base, explore the huge world teaming with wildlife, resources and loot to help you in the long journey ahead.

Wield melee weapons and bows and forge new spells. Kit your loadout in a way which suits your preferred style of battle and craft magic, weapons and armour which compliment your play style. Do your prefer to burn your enemies from a distance, freeze them where they stand, or trust in sword or bow to do your damage?

You'll need much more than brute strength and magic to survive the coming darkness. The world of Kitaria is full of resources for you to use to your advantage. Slay monsters for ingredients, plant seeds and tend to your crops for provisions and gather materials and ores to craft more powerful weapons, armour and accessories.

Kitaria Fables is full of friendly (and not so friendly!) citizens. Make yourself known to your neighbours and fulfil their requests. The more you bond with your new friends, the more rewards you will receive as your relationships grow!

Kitaria Fables features a local co-op mode. Team up with a friend, double your firepower and use the freedom of Kitaria Fables' flexible combat system to compliment each other's strengths.

Limited Farming and Super Grindy

I bought this game expecting something like a cross between Crashlands and Stardew. I enjoyed the graphics and started to progress through the game, noting how expensive everything was, and the fact that it seemed like any food i wanted I had to purchase. I kept progressing, hoping to find some sort of customization or interaction with the NPC's that would make me more interested in the game...However, Im about 9 hours in and I just can't give it any more time. There is very little to do other than fight, and you will fight the same zones over and over and over again to get resources. Getting better weapons severely ramps up the grind, as youll need money and resources that will take so much time to achieve. The game does not care about your time invested in the grind. Grindy games can be fun, if it is worthwhile. This is a case where the grind is not. I seriously think that people looking for a farming game with combat should stay far away from this one

Has potential, but needs to improve

Kitaria Fables is an RPG with extremely sympathetic and vibrant harvest elements, from the same creators of the highly praised and excellent "Cat Quest" and "Cat Quest 2", both available here on GOG. The aesthetics and gameplay are very reminiscent of MMOs of the genre, especially those from the 2000s. That's a positive point. It pleases me. The world, although not so big, has its sympathy and is nice to be explored. The game has a clock that computes the 24 hours a day. This is important as services close at night and only reopen in the morning; monsters also have this cycle, some can only be found at night or day. At this point, what I didn't like is that the 24-hour clock is = 24 minutes. That is: 1 minute = 1 hour. This can be annoying because sometimes you need to be in a place at night, but until you get there it becomes day, or while you're there it's dawn and you need to wait another 16 minutes to be able to defeat certain monsters. The harvest also depends on the cycle to grow. From a battle standpoint, it's very accessible and quiet. The combats work well, however, the same cannot be said for the equipment, as the game is very linear in this sense. The variety of equipment is very low, basically it's a linear line of upgrades for the same equipment, except for some that you can drop from bosses. However, the biggest problem is the grind system. If you don't like grind, skip this game. Whether collecting or dropping items from monsters, the repetitions are very intense, whether to upgrade your equipment and buy items, or to complete quests. It's far from being a game that has any kind of complex mechanics, and this can be frustrating if you like managing attributes or the like. The lack of a level system is also something that bothers me. In the end, Kitaria Fables is a simple, fun but repetitive game. It's far from bad, and it has great potential. I would rate it with 3 stars, but I will rely on future updates.

Cute but limited

My wife and I really enjoyed playing Cat Quest II together (we connect the laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable and play with PS4 controllers), so I got this for us to try. We aren't finished yet, but after 14 hours here's our preliminary review: Pros: +The animals are cute, and the monsters strike a nice balance between cute and threatening +Great sound effects. Harvesting sounds are really satisfying and attacks sound like they pack a punch +Nice variety of enemies (golems, orcs, giant ambulatory carrots, bats, hyena-folk, giant caterpillars, turnip headed ghosts, etc.) +Not all enemies are aggressive. It feels like a world that exists on its own, with or without you. +No serious bugs so far Cons: -Inventory icons and item counts are hard to read from the couch (very small font) -Player 1 centric. Player 2 gets teleported to player 1 if player 1 moves away, but not vice-versa, so player 1 gets to dictate where you go -Smallish game world and simplistic systems (farming is pretty shallow and gameplay is mostly fetch quests and grinding for ingredients to upgrade your gear) Ultimately, the cons aren't that big of a deal, and we've had a lot of fun playing Kitaria Fables. I would recommend it if you want a simple, cutesy, grindy ARPG and you have already played Cat Quest II. If you haven't played Cat Quest II, I would play that first, since its an awesome game, and come back to Kitaria if you're looking for another cute ARPG later.

Welcome to grind-hell

This game is so annoying in its grindy-non-rewarding way it is almost funny. You have to farm to get money (d'oh) and to do so, you have to water your crops daily. To do so, you need at least 42 clicks per game day. The quests are a joke. Most of the quests are like "I have forgotten my lunch and can't leave my post, would you help me?". Typically, to fulfill these requests, you have to grow some crops. This will be done strongly sequentially like "I need 5 tomatoes" (growing tomatoes takes 5 in-game days, meaning 210 watering clicks). After you finished growing the tomatoes, the same NPC tells you, he now needs 5 grapes (there go the next 210 watering clicks) and so on. If you do not have to grow crops, the quests are simply running around the world from person A to person b "buy me eggs at Aunt Christies'". Fighting is 95% boring and 5% panic. Boring as you soon get the feeling how to beat almost any enemy without really thinking and panic, because if you meet 3 per-se simple enemies, you must not get hit once or you are dead. Why? Those enemies might stun you for like 10 seconds and three of such enemies will reliably perma-stun you (one of them hits you after the other) and in the end, you can only sit by and watch your mighty warrior get killed. Also, there are opponents who are not aggressive unless attacked first. You might take a guess, what the KI usually chooses to attack if you do not pick an enemy? Well, sometimes even if you select a specific enemy because if said enemy only approaches you visual range, the lock might be lost and then the KI is free to choose an innocent bystander again. I am now on roughly 2500 watering-clicks within the game and the original quest ("prevent calamity") is long gone. I have no idea, how re-inventing pizza, brewing refreshing beverages and farming the same bosses over and over again gets me closer to rescuing the world.

Nothing to do

It's not a farming game like Rune Factory or Harvest Moon. Cats are adorable, the world is charming and that is all! All you are doing is grind materials and search for the next quest. No real farming, nobody to befriend or marry. And I keep losing my save. I played 45 mn the first quest endlessy...I sleep, crash and no more save to load. Refunded.
