Great game ruined by sub-par performance

I originally played this game back on release and absolutely loved it. It's a no-brainer, then, that I purchased the "remaster" DRM-free to both support the series and have an offline copy free of EA server checks with the slight "tweaks" they advertised. The main issue is that this game runs markedly worse than the original. I tried to replicate the graphics settings as much as I could to test. I own the Steam version of the original so that was my testing against this version. Vanilla for both; no fixes changes or mods. Ryzen 3600 EVGA RTX 2070 32GB 3200MHz RAM 1440p, 165Hz Monitor I tested in a couple areas, mainly the first hours' worth of content and used Afterburner to capture the FPS. The remaster, even in small enclosed areas, ran a consistent 60-90 FPS LESS than the Vanilla release with dips in clustered areas. I understand that they didn't overhaul the engine or anything so we get what we get, but this is shameful to charge full price for a game with these issues. Like I said, I bought to support, and I hope this means we get continued games in this world, but this is incredibly disappointing.

re-jected love: terrible performance ruined my re-encounter with KoArr

First of all. I am not one of those: "The remaster is underwhelming" kind of reviewers. It is a re-master and not a re-make. I really like KoA and all I ever asked from the re-master was a DRM free version of the game AND a fov slider - which the game now povides. I would not have cared about bloom or high resolution textures or whatever... ...unfortunately for me (and belive me I am glad for everyone whose game runs decently) my re-encounter with KoArr is ruined by the worst performance I have ever experienced in a game since I tried to run the "Crysis"-Demo on my mothers notebook - many year ago. While the originnal version of the game provides ~300 FPS on my RTX 2070 Super (https://youtu.be/IJDjnInJ06Q), the re-master offers sub 30 FPS in the very same spot (https://youtu.be/u_RwIzQ-Ib4) , dippinng to below 15 FPS in the first small village. A driveruptdate to 452.06 did not help. I`d love to play this game, but right now it feels like re-jected love. I´d glady give 5 stars if any patches will change teh situation but right now I almost feel like asking for a refund. In fact I allready opened a case - but for some reason I still have hope that the devs show some love and optimize the game.

Cross between TitanQuest and Torchlight

Fun RPG. Three main classes, lots of multiclasses. Three crafting systems. Quests have content, not just fetch this or kill that. The one-star reviews are not talking about the game, and the low average rating I see right now does not do the game justice.

A standard edition review

Kingdoms of Amalur has always been one of my favorite RPGs. So, when I caught wind of it getting a DRM-free release on GOG, I was over the moon. Now this is supposed to be the "remastered" version, but I have to say - I have not noticed a lot of difference between this and the original. A few good things. KoA has a nice and fairly open world, which can be explored at your own pace. There are dungeons and quests to find off the beaten path. There is a nice selection of weapons to arm your character with, some of them are quite unique (i.e. faeblades, chakrams). The character development is fairly simple, and by the end of the game you may have gotten most of the "passive" skills. There is a fairly nice selection of abilities to chose from, both magic and melee. You may always respec your character at any point if you change your mind in regard to your abilities or passives. There are a lot of quests, though a lot of them are pretty basic. The areas of the map are varied. The voice acting is alright, you may even recognize some voice actors from other games such as Skyrim or New Vegas. It ran pretty well on my machine, which is quite old at this point. I only encountered severe frame drops when using the "arrow rain" skill, for some reason and not always, but nothing too bad, in my opinion. As of today (09/07/2021) the game does support Galaxy achievements, but does not support the Galaxy overlay, so there is no satisfying sound and notification when you pop an achievement (most likely subject to change if the Galaxy is not abandoned). The game is fairly long, my first GOG playthrough took me around 54 hours (and I honestly have not completed all of the side quests, as by the second DLC I had maxed out and become overpowered, aaaaand burnt-out a bit). To sum up, an amazing game, perhaps not the most mature or dark, but still fun and interesting. Strongly recommended.

Just fun to play

This is a great RPG that is a blast to play. Huge map, a good many quests, one of the best control setups for a character I've come across. Great story, I know some people complain but I enjoyed it. Love the artwork and music. If you want to have fun for hours and hours...Here you go!
