Murder. Nothin’ nice about it. In this old school detective adventure, step into the boots of whip-smart Inspector Waffles and travel the city to track hidden clues, interrogate shady suspects, and unravel a dangerous mystery. But be warned: curiosity killed the cat...

It’s hard to get the memory of that case out my head... I can’t even think about what my old partner went through without getting a bad taste in my mouth. I guess that’s why I’m sittin' here drinking yet another glass of cold, hard milk.

Inspector Waffles was hoping his worst days were behind him, but the murder of a high-profile industrialist CEO beloved by the citizens of Cat Town raises new questions and fears.

Being the best inspector on the CTPD, Waffles has no choice: he's gotta push past the painful memories, don his well-worn overcoat, and prepare to get his paws dirty.

A detective story reminiscent of the old school classics, Inspector Waffles provides plenty of peculiar mystery, a story full of intrigue, and a slew of characters to interrogate, all wrapped into beautifully simple pixel-art. Will you be able to sniff out every clue and nab the murderer?

A REAL TREAT, SEE?

  • A brilliant feline detective in a world full of anthropomorphic cats, dogs, and maybe other species. It’s pixel-animal madness, I tell ya.
  • A beautiful jazzy soundtrack, full of notes and music and harmony pleasing to your ears and brain.
  • Chock full of dry humor and puns about cats and dogs. Seriously, I couldn’t think of any more puns to include. The pun supply is exhausted.

Lovingly crafted indie adventure

I've been following Inspector Waffles over the past 3 years or so and was extremely happy to have the opportunity to help out in beta testing as well as drawing one of the Woolball cards. The demo version covers the (relatively short) first of five chapters and does a good job of getting you interested in the full game. Personally, I love the colourful pixel art graphics as well as the hand drawn cutscenes and the quality is consistently good throughout the game, also helped by the atmospheric music and good sound effects. The characters have a lot of personality (not just gruff street smart protagonist Waffles and his adorable partner Spotty, but also the geeky Pixel, the shrewd owner of the antiques store to name but a few) and the story goes surprisingly deep with some intriguing twists, quite a few of which I did not see coming (or at least not very far in advance) but which all made sense given the facts of the case. The puzzles are not overly hard, but pretty sensible with no moon logic. If you investigate each scene thoroughly, you shouldn't need to do a lot of backtracking. I expect a good 5-6 hours of solid entertainment on a blind playthrough for most players. Apart from the main case, there's even a sort of side quest to perform that will not only get you an achievement, but also unlocks a special reward at the end. The puns and other humour are genuinely funny and made me literally laugh out loud at times. Having followed the game for so long, I was not disappointed in how the game has turned out and I can wholeheartedly recommend Inspector Waffles. Two thumbs up from me.

Purring in noir style

Here is a game that promises nothing but delivers everything. This is the type of game that I have the most affinity with. What made me buy "Inspector Waffles" was the narrative involving cats. I love cats, so I thought, at the very least, funny a cat as an inspector trying to solve the murder of another cat. Right in the bull's-eye! I don't know how to express exactly how I feel, but it's like playing a poin and click with Noir aesthetics but with jokes and extremely funny situations involving cats and dogs. The pixelart work is very beautiful, but it is just a backdrop for the dialogues and successful soundtrack of an EXTREMELY quirky and fun experience. I had fun from start to finish. I mainly recommend it to anyone who is afraid to play a point and click due to the high standard difficulty. Here, the difficulty curve is friendly, and the narrative does not allow you to be frustrated at any time, even when it takes time to solve a problem. It is a delicious game, clearly made with great care. It is good to appreciate titles like this, which run away from current trends and surprise us without promising. Ah. Yes. The jazz-style soundtrack is like winning a fish sachet! Hahaha. Defects? Yes: it is short. Well, it's not like we have games of the genre that are not short, but when the work is good, we always want more. In short: If you like point and clicks, buy without fear. If you don't like or are afraid to play one, this title is also for you. Seriously, there is no way to go wrong. NOTE: I hope that, over time, new languages will be available to reach the largest number of people. In games of the genre, whose texts are the focus, the more translations, the better. Good job!

A lovely, wholesome detective mystery

Between this, Darkside Detective, Thimbleweed Park, Jenny LeClue, and Gibbous, the mystery adventure games with puns and humour are doing well lately. If you liked any of these, you will enjoy this game also. What I enjoyed most was the world-building: it's not just a detective story where the characters happen to be cats and dogs; the whole world and the case are centered around this. I loved every moment of learning more about the world, it sucked me in, and eventually makes you realise that the story wouldn't work without this setting. I have to also mention the great music, and I recommend buying the soundtrack as well. The mix of noir jazz with more upbeat rhythms makes for great background work music. The protagonist is the 'usual' noir-type detective with a tragic background, but his story arc is satisfying. Somewhere from act two and towards the end, the dialog may seem a bit sappy to some, but it actually made me realise that I could barely remember the last time I played a game (adventure or otherwise) in which characters were actually polite and nice to each other. I found it a very welcome change. A very high recommendation, and I hope to see more from this studio in the future.

Very enjoyable Point&Clicker

Bought this on a whim since I like point&click adventures and cats. This is truly a very enjoyable and nice little gem, kinda reminds me a little bit of Darkside Detective in style but that is only a good thing really. The pixel art is nice, the music fits nicely into the background and the writing is great. The story is a fun take on the buddy cop movies and flows well throughout the game with likable characters. It took me about 4.5 hours to play through and about another 30 mins of replaying to get the final collectible and the hidden ending. For me that is a fair amount of entertainment for 12 bucks, though some people nowadays seem to expect 40 hours at least for that so if you are one of those, look elsewhere. If you like games like Darkside Detective it's really a nobrainer to buy this one. Definitely recommend.

A pleasant surprise

I must confess, I only got it because it was 50% off and didn't expect much. It looked like one of the many games recently to jump on the noir and anthropomorphic characters bandwagon. But this charming little game definitely got heart and soul. An okay, and particularly entertainingly told, story, accompanied by a fitting soundtrack with catchy MIDI-ish sounds that could directly come out of an 80s/90s adventure game, also decent graphics. Just a bit short for the regular price, but if you see it for less than 10 bucks it's an absolute no-brainer.
