Description
The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer
It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.
(The series has run from 1979 to 1983)

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn’t alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don’t give up.

Only you can stand up to this.

Great game but...

TL;DR: good game that drags at times, and has a main character that is pretty frustrating at times; despite this the story, and characters (besides the main character) are really interesting and seriously creepy at times. If I had to gage my interest with the game, and series as a whole it'd be a 5. Really interesting story, and the way it handles characters is briliant, spending more than enough time building them up to the point where you like them as is ,and flips everything upside down. All except for the MC. This guy is seriously dumber than bricks, and evokes no sympathy because of how utterly stupid he can be. Don't get me wrong most of the time he's a good main character, but paticularly towards the end he seems to loose all ability to think rationally, and almost dies not once but twice. It's like someone walking into an aligaors mouth, then being surprised it clamped down. There will be more than a couple times where you flail your arms at the screen and curse at the MC. Also the character building can be pretty long so keep in mind it takes it's time getting to the good bits but it's worth it if you have the attention span for hours of reading to get to your first real scare, but once it does the game is really intense, and interesting making you wonder if the people around you are who you think. Also the ending is briliant, seriously creeped me out. Cant wait for ch 3

Even better then Ch.1

This time the 5 protagonists (plus a new supporting role) the history of the 3 leading families of Hinamizawa, lead by the Sonozaki family whose heiress is Mion. It's set at the same time as Chapter 1, with Keiichi having just moved to the village and the Festival coming up. As in Chapter 1, things get messy during and right after the Festival. Really messy this time. And by saying that, I mean really, really, really messy. The story is even better this time, the characters better worked out, and there's much more suspense, much more horror, many more questions. As in Ch.1, the first act is slow, mostly in school, setting the stage. It's shorter this time, and that's good. The third act might shake up what came to know and love in Ch.1 quite a lot. Enough said, any more would be a major spoiler. Just so much: I shed quite a lot of tears in Ch.3. Anyway, as in the previous chapter, once you finished, the Extra unlocks, which discusses the events from the view of the actors playing Mion and everyone else (that's what they say they are and what's reasonable considering it's a different story and the dead have risen) who get together to read the scipt for Ch.3. Of course, many questions remain unanswered to tease Ch.3, which I will buy right now. Strong suggestion! But if haven't yet, play Ch.1 before starting this one.

Great mystery

If you read the free chapter 1 and you wonder what could come next, I assure you'll like this. This is a different story, longer and deeper into some characters and let's say it have a fair share of surprises, twists, and psychological impact. This "game" has no gameplay. But to solve the mystery, you will have to patch the clues together and make your own theory. Like reading a good mystery book. It's fun! PS: use the fan patch for better graphics, interface, and voice acting.

The mystery is getting more complicated

It was surprising to see how Watanagashi followed the exact same structure as Onikakushi, but still, it seemed like a whole different story. Onikakushi was so tense that it became suffocating, but a bit predictable as Keiichi's fate could be seen from miles. Watanagashi is different, though. I didn't feel the previous tension, but the plot was much sadder. You aren't worrying just about Keiichi. You're concerned about a group of characters being destroyed. Yet, there's still a chance to save someone, so you keep holding that hope until the ending (and its endless plot twists). I can't wait to read the next one.

Dont forget to air out your futon

Mion was already my favorite after Ch.1, and her being on the cover of this one had me looking forward to more of her awesomeness. Well, in more ways than one it is here. In short, the warning about the difficulty being rather high is quite fair.
