Amber couldn't care less. Wandering the desert in a recently-inherited motorhome, she mourns the loss of her grandfather - indifferent and unaware of the hunt happening around her. It's not until she meets Marina, a young hitchhiker lost in New Mexico that the girls get swept up in the rush.
At least tens of words, maybe even hundreds. Although the last word count puts it around 90,000, so expect 6 or so hours of reading.
Grand, hand-painted vistas of actual landmarks in the western United States, all in glorious 1080p detail.
A huge soundtrack featuring the works of Smoke Thief, Jake Abernathie, Able Kirby, and other friends of AlienWorks. Sounds right at home on your in-dash cassette tape player.
Accessibility options for days, including the ability to skip through everything in less than five minutes. But who would wanna do that?
Alternate silly content for second readthroughs that AlienWorks let the programmer write. This may or may not have been a good idea.

People bashing the game simply for the fact it's anime and a visual novel is just silly. I applaud GOG for expanding in what they offer a bit. Different strokes for different folks.
:)
A fine little love story. I was surprised to find myself engaged as I was as there's no diverging paths or choices in the game, it's a straight through visual novel. There's decent voice acting and the humor had me laughing along with the game. Amber's voice has a few stilted lines but they didn't jar me much. If you do have a problem with any of the voices you can actually adjust the volume or mute the voice for any of the five main characters individually, as well as just turning voices off altogether.
My only real complaints are a bit of a lack of variety in some of the stills, particularly in the scenes of Amber and Marina in the front seat of the RV. As well as the fact that Marina is shown as a red head in all of the games CGs and described as a read head at one point but appears near blonde in most of her stills. Minor issues overall.
Completing the story will unlock Goofball Mode, which unlocks a 'difficulty' selector. Normal mode is the same but with dialogue changes and gags added, worth playing after you've had time to digest the story for a bit, not immediately after beating it. EZMode is worth going over immediately after finishing because it's a quick laugh. And Extreme mode is Normal with a particular 'element' from mobile games added.
Finally, this is the 'clean' version of the game. You can download a patch to activate adult content from the developers blog. Easy find on google.
I have to say that I like this game a lot and I like it that GOG has started to sell these kind of games. I wonder if they will release more of them. I do wish to ask if this adult version or normal? I hope to be able to buy it soundtrack soon.
I got Highway Blossoms as part of a bundle on another website and decided to give it a try. This was my gateway drug into the worlds of both visual novels and the yuri genre. I've gone through quite a few visual novels since then but this one still ranks near the top as one of my all-time favorites.
This novel-length story (it took me 11+ hours to get through the whole thing, although I am kind of a slow reader) is well-written, tugging at your heartstrings in parts (dammit, who's cutting onions around here??) or making you literally laugh out loud in others. (Try Goofball mode, it's even more hilarious!)
Highway Blossoms is a story of two young women who meet by chance on the roads of the American southwest. They go on a treasure-seeking road trip adventure together, and being opposites in many ways find that they each have a lot to teach each other about life--and love, as their friendship blossoms into attraction and then full-blown love. Amber, the one too mature for her age and carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. And Marina, the naive happy-go-lucky immature ditz (sorry Marina!) who could nonetheless bring a smile to anyone's face with her big heart and girlish attitude. Each navigating the roads of the southwest and of their evolving relationship. I thought Marina's character was a bit of an anime trope (though I do know people in real life with her attitude and way of thinking), but it played well against Amber's sense of uber-responsibility and protectiveness.
This story really hooks into your emotions and had me captivated throughout. The story is for the most part PG-13 material, although there is an "adult patch" that will add or unlock content not suitable for teh kiddiez. I just read the regular story though and believe me, it's more than fine without the nudity and hoochee-wawa. ;) If you're on the fence about buying this, do it. Take a lesson from Amber & Marina and have a new experience unlike any you've had before.
When I was playing through "Highway Blossoms", I was reminded somewhat of Nina LaCour's novel "We Are Okay". Amber, the main character, is a teenager who has recently lost her grandfather, the man who raised her and with whom pretty much all her memories are shared. However, rather than cutting off all ties to her hometown and flying off to college, Amber decides to take her grandfather's motorhome and attend a concert several states away.
It is this background that sets the stage for "Highway Blossoms", for on her journey Amber meets another teenager, the always-excited and innocent Marina. The two are forced together after Marina's care is stolen, and they are swept up in the gold rush. Without spoiling too much, as they hunt for the treasure and compete with a trio of anime stereotypes, Amber and Marina become friends, and then more.
As stated in the description, "Highway Blossoms" is a yuri visual novel. The version available here is censored, with the two H scenes excised, but a free patch is available from the developer for those who feel it necessary. It is rather short, maybe about 6 to 7 hours, with no branching paths, but I think that's about right for the story it's trying to tell.
I'm giving this four stars because, although the story is rather good (if predictable), the music is -- as mentioned in other reviews -- not particularly memorable, even though the eclectic taste of the main character is a key driver of the story.
Overall, though, I'd definitely recommend getting this on sale.
