the most hardcore FPS

Hexen II Port report. The GOG version of Hexen 2 ships with nGlide and mouse aiming works fine. The default controls have been altered for modern playing. As an alternative you can also use the fan patch called Hammer of Thyrion found here. http://uhexen2.sourceforge.net/ It will give you widescreen as support as well should you want it. NOTE! This version does not with the expansion Portal of Praevus Hexen II is the most hardcore FPS game ever made for the PC and that is not hyperbole. It runs on the Quake 1 engine so expect similar movement. What makes Hexen 2 special is the integrate level design and the mandatory secrets you have you find. It’s a love it or hate it kind of thing. With no help or hand holding to speaking of the game will throw you into a series of interconnected hub worlds with secret puzzles and objectives that you must figure out. On top of the visceral combat you will have to search every nook and cranny for hidden item and passages in order to progress the game. There’s a bit of point and click logic to some of the puzzles. Combat. The combat in Hexen 2 is like that of Quake 1 but better in my opinion. You chose from 1 of 4 heroes to start the game with. The only thing really separating them is the weapons they can use and small states like health and ammo capacity. Each hero can carry up to 4 highly useful weapons with can be boosted with a power up known that the tomb of power. This is what gives Hexen II’s combat such depth. You pick that character suited to your play style and use their unique weapons. Combine with with enemies that Also possess tricks of their own and you find yourself with simply put, one of the most skill demanding FPS games ever made.

One of the best and most hardcore FPS

This is imo one of the best games ever created. BUT I will say that this is NOT by any means going to be a game for everyone. There's no handholding whatsoever as far as the combat goes or the puzzles aside from cryptic hints you find in world notes. But as I said in my collection review, if you understand how Raven designs their stuff and enjoy the first Hexen, this one should be right up your alley. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE EXPANSION DUE TO LICENSING ISSUES, YOU NEED TO FIND THAT ELSEWHERE. First off this works 100% out of the box using a 3DFX wrapper. Steam version does not work at all without extra setup. Controls are adjusted to fit modern setups. And thank Eidolon this version has the CD music working perfectly! Not to mention DRM free so this is in every way better than the steam version and you should grab it here. As for the game itself, if you can get past the insanely cryptic nature of the puzzles, this game nails almost everything else. Atmosphere, combat, resource management, sound design, etc Unlike Hexen 1, Tome of power makes a return! Enemies are in smaller numbered groups here but the AI is far more complex. Enemies will jump across ledges and pits to find you, will dodge side to side, etc it's quite crazy. The movement is the best I've ever experienced in any game.. take Quake 1's insane momentum and bunny hopping and crank it up a knob or two. Mix that with this game's speed boots or floating powers and you have some of the most chaotic DM matches you could possibly experience. Though you will have to fully understand how Q1 Engine movement works to get this down properly. All in all this is not going to be a game for everyone, but if you want a hardcore experience to brag to people about finishing this game is a great pick, and this release blows the steam one out of the water. The movement is a bit better here in vanilla than the source port Hammer of Thyrion but that's more user friendly. Also theres lots of fanmade stuff to check out ;)

Play it with Hammer of Thyrion

http://uhexen2.sourceforge.net/ This is a link to the source port you'll want. This game is an underrated gem and one of the best action/adventure/FPS/fantasy games ever made, although some parts will have you reaching for a walkthrough. You'll have to be thorough and detective-like as you explore the environment looking for clues on how to progress, but at the same time, you need to have as quick a trigger finger as Doomguy or BJ Blazkowicz. Recommended classes for beginners: Paladin or Cleric What the GOG version has that the Steam version doesn't: The soundtrack, and getting it to run is less of a pain.

Good Old Game Indeed

This game is one of my personal Golden Classics, along with X-Com Ufo Defense, Fallout 2 and Diablo. I bought it within the first minute I saw it release here - ZERO regrets. It works like a charm on my RX580 4GB with Windows 10. Hint: from the Options menu switch ON always run and change RMB from jump (space bar) to something more useful like interact or use item. I can recall being young and without Internet but had found a guide to this game, I was determined to see it to the end. Oh boy, I was in for a the ride of my life! Took me more than a year to get it done on the easiest difficulty with the Assassin playing it after school with a magazine walk-through by my side. This one of the hardest games I've ever completed. An episode I'll never forget is when the Crystal Golem punched my character (Necro) so hard it decapitated him and I ended up looking sideways at my own headless body on the floor. This game belongs to the Hall of Fame.

Hexen 2 rocks!

Hexen 2 is all of what made Heretic and Hexen great plugged into a refined version of the Quake1 engine. All of the haunting gothic-like atmosphere, the crazy enemies, the wonderfully weird weapons and the interesting puzzles make for a gaming experience that should not be missed! At the time of this writing the expansion pack " Portal Of Praevus " is not included. However, it can be found elsewhere and can be merged into GOG's version of Hexen 2 seamlessly. Buy with confidence folks, you'll enjoy this one, start to finish!
