Horn of the Abyss (HotA) is a meticulously crafted fan-made expansion for Heroes of Might and Magic III, designed to seamlessly integrate with the original game's mechanics and aesthetics. Developed by HotA Crew, this expansion introduces new content that honors the legacy of the original while enhancing gameplay depth and variety.
 

New Factions: Cove and Factory


Cove
Set sail with the Cove, a seafaring faction hailing from the pirate kingdom of Regna. This town introduces a lineup of aquatic and pirate-themed creatures, such as Nymphs, Corsairs, and the terrifying Sea Serpents. The Cove's distinctive gameplay revolves around naval dominance and swift assaults, offering a fresh strategic experience.

Factory
Embrace innovation with the Factory, a steampunk-inspired faction blending technology and nature. Its creatures range from Halflings and Armadillos to mechanical Automatons and the powerful Dreadnoughts. The Factory's unique dual-path development allows players to choose between technological advancement and natural synergy, providing diverse tactical options.

Expanded Hero Roster


HotA enriches the hero lineup by adding 16 new heroes for each of the new towns, Cove and Factory, as well as a number of striking campaign-specific figures, totaling 37 new playable characters. Additionally, several existing heroes have been reintroduced or rebalanced to enhance gameplay diversity.

New Campaigns


HotA introduces five new campaigns, expanding the game's narrative and strategic depth:

  • Under the Jolly Roger: Follow Captain Jeremy Albatross on his quest for survival as he finds himself in uncharted land.  
  • Terror of the Seas: Navigate treacherous waters and confront formidable foes in this suspenseful maritime adventure.  
  • Horn of the Abyss: Delve into the mystery surrounding the eponymous great artifact and its impact on the world.  
  • Forged in Fire: Experience the rise of the Factory faction amidst the chaos of wars and find the best use for your heroes’ ingenious innovations.  
  • All In: Witness your former foe embarking on a high-stakes journey that tests the limits of strategy and courage.  

These campaigns provide hours of immersive gameplay.

Revamped and Expanded


  • Dozens of new artifacts, including the devastating Horn of the Abyss and the mind-shielding Sleepkeeper, change the flow of combat and map control.

Very good mod

I have played HOTA for a couple of years now and to me this is the best version/way to play HOMM3. The insane amount of work and love that this mod has is fantastic and a must download for anyone that love HOMM3.

True HoMM 3.5

When I asked a family member to guess which town was from official DLC and which from fan mod (Conflux vs Cove) he picked wrong, claiming that Conflux buildings have less polish so it was fanmade. This is the quality we are talking about here. For me, HotA is real continuation of HoMM we never got from original creators.

I have no words that can describe how happy i ma to see this legendary mod for HoMM3. Not only i have completed my collection of HoMM games (New World Computing) but they also added This gem of a mod. Great job GoG, you have done it again!

Great update to an old game

This expansion for HOMM3 is a fantastic addition to the game. The designers clearly loved the original game, and it really captures the feeling of the previous expansions to the game. I love the new mechanics and town. The new maps are both challenging and interesting. They also added many quality of life improvements and rebalanced a few of the more over and underpowered abilities. I’m so happy to see that this has been added to GOG for easier installation.
