You know that game many seem to like...
... but you can't figure out why? So then you keep trying because the game is "the best out there" and you still can't find what the heck does this game does better than the others to be "the best out there"? Well, that is Gloomhaven for me. I own this game on Steam - and nowadays I keep trying to convince myself I was drunk when I bought it. The digital version plays pretty much like the boardgame, so it IS a good way to experience the game without investing a ton of money on the tabletop version; however, it is just a mediocre dungeon crawler at its core. The art is likeable, but not amazing; gameplay is okayish (in both versions, with pros and cons when comparing both); the campaign is nothing new... nothing in it is really, really bad, but absolutely nothing is mind boggling. Regarding the digital version, soundtrack and narrations are good, but again, nothing that spectacular. Why is this the best board game ever according to BGG? My best shot is that it appeals to people that would like to play tabletop RPG Dungeon Crawlers but don't have the time or impetus to actually do it. Is it better than those mentioned Old School Dungeon Crawlers? Absolutely not. Now, when it comes to the digital version, besides testing to know the game, I can't really understand why you would invest hundreds of hours into this game instead of playing any one of the better Dungeon Crawlers RPGs on PC out there (not to mention you won't have much of a deep story here by comparison to even the Dungeon Crawlers for PC of the 90s. I know you will find a ton of positive reviews in this section, that's the nature of this beast, but here I am leaving you with a counterpoint and a message of support so you don't have to feel bad to pass on this title. So there you have it, I confess, I don't like the "best ranked board game on Board Game Geek".
