"Ghost" is a metroidvania where two super hackers hire a mysterious agent in order to infiltrate the Nakamura Space Station and steal the greatest electronic secret ever. Of course, the space station will defend itself, which is where the fun begins: the station's defences, with their never-ending arsenal of weapons and artifacts, will have to be destroyed. But the story gets more complicated when the hackers find out about their agent's hidden ties...

WEAPONS: Weapons reload on the go and they never run out of bullets. No need to hoard ammo for the boss battle! The various weapons can be found or purchased (depending on the game mode) and each one has its strengths and weaknesses.

GHOST: The protagonist is not the android you see, but the being that remotely controls it: a mysterious digital ghost that can leave its robot chassis, pass through doors and walls, control enemy androids, and use their own tools against them. What happens if the robot you control gets destroyed, you ask? Then your ghost will be free to control something else, or return to your main body.

UPGRADES: You can have as many as you can collect. The upgrades are passive, so they work without needing any special controls, and they don't run out or deactivate. They come in a large assortment, from aggressive drones to bullet improvements. Remember that the more you get, the more OP you are.

ITEMS: Devices you can use at any time. High-tech equivalents to potions and scrolls.

GEEKIES: Spread throughout the game are hidden "geekies". If you find one and activate it, something related to that geekie will change in the game (not affecting gameplay)... and the challenge is to find out what changes. I know, it sounds silly, but some of them are funny.

SECRETS: 200 rooms have secrets in them that can be revealed by performing a specific action. If you find a secret, you're rewarded with a small permanent powerup that will make your character more powerful. In addition, finding all of the secrets in each level will reward you with something very special.

MAP: The whole map has around 300 rooms, divided into zones. Each zone has its own enemies, its own ambience, its own soundtrack, and, of course, its own boss.

STORY: The story is not to save the world, but rather to go on an intruiging journey wrought with humor. Not to mention all the dialogues and cinematics, all voiced in English.

GAME MODES: Ghost has 2 game modes: "classic" and "survival". Classic is similar to a metroidvania, where the more you advance through the game, the more stuff you obtain and the harder the enemies become. Survival is crazier, as you get stuff much faster and you'll soon turn into a killing machine, but you lose everything when you die.

SKILL TREE: The RPG component of the game is found in the skill tree, where you can spend skill points to level up characters, obtaining special skills for each one. Depending on what skills you select, your gameplay will change in an interesting way.

And the rest is a mystery, one that I shouldn't spoil... you'll just have to discover the rest on your own.

Awesome game but...

...Just play it on survival. There is a classic mode which id a bit clunky, I played it from begining to end, got the bad ending, tried again, got the good one, thought that it doesnt fit together, as fan of unepic i expected something more, then i tried survival and realized the game was made for it, everytime you die you lose all your equipment , but you earn new stuff freaking quick meaning that you have to play with a different approach every time making it ridiculously fun and crazy.

One more gem is finally on GOG

First "Unepic", now "Ghost 1.0". I couldn't wait till it appears there, since the game has been released in Steam. One of the best RPG-platformers on PC - humor, dynamics, powerful gameplay and impressive story. And hardcore, of course. For those who sincerelly loves "Unepic" - you'll love it even more.

Fun game but the save game BUG, argh! :(

Just purchased. I like the style and story a lot so far; the setting seems inspired by Battle Angel Alita, and the game definitely reminds me of Metroid. The game mechanics are mostly intuitive and easy to figure out, but the tutorial is recommended since it fills in some minor gaps. HOWEVER, be aware that a necessary folder "save" may not be properly created when the game installs. You'll end up playing for 15-20-60 minutes, supposedly saving your progress along the way, come back to continue your game, but... nothing, no saved games. Previous play: wasted. If this occurs, go to your install location, e.g. ".\GOGGames\Ghost 1.0" and manual create a new "save" folder. Now it should properly save your games. Not sure how this got past QA; it's a pretty significant issue.

Good platformer with cheese on top

Despite the tag, this is not a metroidvania game. Map progression is only tied to the story, and the abilities like double jump and hovering are not required to get into different areas and can be completely skipped due to the skill system. On that note; most of the skills are underwhelming and besides stat point increase seem almost useless. The worst parts of the game are boss fights that are much harder than what you've experienced up to that point. Not much to say about music. Can't say I would listen to it standalone, but it fits the game. Nice artstyle, with some room for improvement. Sometimes in cutscenes the mouths of characters would just stop moving while audio kept playing. Voice acting is amateur, but it's not too bad. Story and humour are pretty cheesy, and nothing outstanding, although it's noticeable it wasn't a healfhearted attempt. Overall it's a decent game, with weird difficulty spikes in the form of boss fights. Mission mode is a nice addition, although I haven't played much of it. I would highly reccomend to check out the Mini Ghost game included. I played it before the main game, and honestly enjoyed it through and through.

Good game, 7/10 but have design flaws

Played this game in Classic mode, almost completed it. Gameplay was quite entertaining, controls, story and et cetera are ok, so due to review size limit I'll just focus on moments I find to be standing between current score and perfect 10. 1. This is not a metroidvania game, it is just side-scrolling exploration game with rpg elements. After tutorial you will gain no new abilities that would allow you to traverse to previously unreachable locations. Except from Center area every area can (and need to) be explored to 100% from the moment you reach it, and new areas are unlocked simply by collecting keys. It is not a serious flaw, but I had to mention it. 2. After death you loose all your "money". Considering there are places with insta-death traps.. you just have to spend currency asap and grind it in safe spots separately from progressing the story. It is not fun and unnecessary Dark Souls design borrowed. 3. Upgrades. They are of two types Collectable items that buff your stats, they are ok. However Skill Tree is quite strange. There are skills like Double Jump (remind me, why wouldn't I take it? Why it is not some story-based upgrade to enable access to a new location?) and skill that increases your damage after standing still for some time (only useful against 1 boss). I had hard time spending my Skill points as most of abilities are lackluster.. Oh, one more point, there are no respecs, if you messed things by accidental click, like I did, then restart. 4. The only thing that makes you backtrack are "hidden souls" thing, essentially some secret in almost every area. But they are more annoying than fun, and some rather un-intuitive, I just ended Alt-Tabing to guide to not to waste my time. 5. Final Boss battle is just.. survival against mass of enemies which is closer to Tohou. Unless you use some cheesy weapons it ends to be annoying, especially since you have to quit the game to restart it properly. Overall it is rather anticlimactic experience.
