Forgotton? Not by a long shot.

Forgotton Anne pleasantly surprised me with its colourful and imaginative world and characters, outstanding voice acting, and solid soundtrack. It's a game with a beautiful aesthetic, evident from the screenshots, that makes you the protagonist of an animated adventure with high production values. Anne is the Enforcer, tasked with enforcing the law in a world of forgotten objects turned sentient, called Forgotlings. When a group of rebel Forgotlings strike a power plant, Anne will have to track down the mysterious rebel leader and uncover the truth about herself and this world. Equipped with the Arca, a glove that allows you to manipulate anima, Anne will often be presented the choice of 'distilling' Forgotlings or sparing them, opening or closing certain doors for you. At its (mechanical) heart, the game is a puzzle-platformer that revolves around your use of the Arca to open doors, power up consoles, etc. Puzzles are not terribly difficult with the odd exception. You're also equipped with a set of wings that allows access into certain areas, but they require your Arca to be full. Exploration is encouraged by way of collectibles and, in fact, a feature is later introduced that allows you to replay certain levels to track down memorabilia and unlock achievements. While the story itself is largely predictable, it is by no means any less good for it and was, to my mind, perfectly executed. The only objection I could raise here is that one of the endings feels slightly undercooked. Forgotton Anne is a charming animated adventure that will pull at your heart strings at times and make you smile for being allowed to partake in this world of ill-tempered teddy bears, trigger-happy guns, and Shakespearean mannequins. It'll probably take you around 9 hours to beat, accounting for all collectibles. For my part, it was well-worth its asking price and I highly recommend it. Use of a controller is recommended.

Nice Game but the controls ...

The game itself is quite nice. The story has no real plot twist and I wish they made more of some of the side characters. Still, overall the story is just as nice as the visuals. But the controls ... oh man. These are ok..ish most of the time. And it gets really bad when you get to the platforming. They are somewhat unprecise, when trying to jump and have an - for me - unintuitive delay. Also: The platforming in the power plant could have been left out and the game would have been the same except a lot less frustration. The sidestories/background cutscenes during the whole thing wre nice but the platforming wiht these controls ... Also in the end the player is presented with kind of a non-choice. Where one choice dosen't really fit the story told so far. Also it's along the line: Burn the orphanage or save the orphanage. Still it was entertaining to play. Worth a buy.

Beautiful, but not overly substantive

It's a very beautiful game. The hand-drawn visuals, the effects, the animations, the music, the voice-overs are absolutely amazing. It's also engaging. I initially though it might be as good as The Longest Journey. The are some similarities. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as deep. It elicits emotions through music and visuals, rather than dialogs and other content. There are no strong overarching themes, and the story-line is pretty straightforward. I like Anne as the character, but the rest of the cast are a bit shallow. Platforming and puzzles are all right. I'm not a big fan of either in any game, but here developers managed to hit the spot where both are challenging without being frustrating. Overall, my rating would is: I do not regret playing this game. For the reference, I use the following linear scale: ★ - Garbage. ★★ - Occasionally entertaining, but mostly a waste of time. ★★★ - I do not regret playing the game. Could be fun, but not something I would urge you to play. ★★★★ - Enjoyable and generally recommended. ★★★★★ - Timeless classic. Everyone must play.

Great outta the gate, lackluster finish

Wonderful art. Nice music. Voice acting decent. Political statements not overbearing. This is what is great in the game. At first, you think you'll get lots of puzzles with increasing difficulty. You think you'll be given many choice that will give you one of many outcomes in the end... you know, like Chrono Trigger or something, which this game at one point tries to comically pay tribute to. But that's not the case. The puzzles are not that hard, and not that many. Dialogues can't be skipped, and there are many pointless ones, especially if you want to do a replay in order to get an alternate scene... and the final choices in this game, a game which prides itself on some sort of moral choice index, are not so "free" as they appear at first. For me, personally, it is a game that for every 1.5 points gained, lost 1 point, and I played it twice. I really like it, but I dislike it a little at the same time. Everyone should play it, if only because it IS imaginative, but don't be fooled - there are a lot of things that seemed like they were rushed... the ending is the most evident of these. Again, beautiful moments, but not a lot of puzzles, and the controls are not optimal to call this a "platformer." It is a walking simulator with puzzle elements and some platforming.

8 hour walking simulator

Beautiful art and music. Poor and almost nonexistent game play. "Puzzles" and bad platforming are put in to fill the space between cut scenes and dialogue that are just tired tropes. This is an 8 hour interactive movie that the creators should have just made into a short 90 minute feature film. I spent the last two hours of this game just waiting for it to end.
