The peaceful and beautiful island of Rosantica is under threat once more by a relentless evil. The magical barrier between Rosantica and The Scourge has started to crack, allowing dangerous creatures to slowly seep back in to try and take over the island. Flynn stumbles upon this invasion and discovers he must stand up against The Scourge to stop its spread into Rosantica. Accompanied by his mythical companion Dex, Guardian Spirit of the Land, Flynn will be challenged by the evil from The Scourge and its powerful overlord.

Become a True Master of the Elements

I know how we all have huge back-logs of games which are only expanding as new ones get released. Flynn: SoC, being at a first glance similar to lots of other 2D platformers, might make you skip it (you know: "Oh, another one, huh?..").
Don't.
It's GOOD. The controls are tight, the level design is outstanding. There's a clear feeling of progress and as you get better with the controls, and the evades, and the combos you realize how well balanced the game is and that it follows the classic "easy to pick up, difficult to master" paradigm very well. It has challenge maps, a fairly basic but straightforward skill tree and it's just... Good. Seriously, do give this one a chance, you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was.
This is a fun simple indie action platformer. On the easy and short side. Small selection of enemy sprite types and the combat is pretty simplistic. You will be repeating the same slash dodge slash maneuver against laughing goblin enemy throughout the entire game. Secrets are easy to find, platforming nothing spectacular but a good way to kill some time. Very good pixel art and animations.
Overall, a completely average indie title good for killing some time.
I am sad that the developer behind this game is now gone bankrupt as this game is pretty good from what I've played so far.
It mixes between straightforward platformers and metroidvania. Levels aren't interconnected but you get upgrades later on that can get you to areas that you couldn't reach before. A bit similar to how Shantae first did with the first game.
Seems to be a solid game from what I played so far.
Flynn: Son of Crimson is a platformer with some Metroidvania elements, such as different weapons, a few combat skills, and 2 additional traversal abilities. The story of an orphan saving the world is not exactly original and this particular implementation is bland, but not horrible. The controls are rebindable and the level design is present. The graphics and visual design are nice and there is no contact damage, which, while good in general, should not be the only good things to say about a game. The Scourge system, where a previously-cleared location transformed and you had to clear a few rooms of it in order to progress, was fine. Not sure if the chosen levels were random, but it did look like a lot of effort to implement.
There were a few instances when I was hit (-1 HP) and pushed into a pit (-1 more HP), which was rather irritating.
I like this game! It is a game that I learned about while under the influence of V2K.
