Picking up where Milestone One left off, the journey of our heroines continues. Fault is a linear visual novel, meaning there are no choices to make. But what does do is tell an interesting and engaging story. Building on the first game, we learn more about the world, and the characters. They face new challenges, and the consequences of their choices. And sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between friend or foe.
This is the second game in the series of a planned trilogy (about 3). Number 3 is slotted to be out in 2020 (This is Japan's version of indie groups).
If you want to read the first one, that would be Fault Milestone One. Sighs, whoever did their title marketing was just... Japan usually has very long explanations as titles but this one was strange for me to grasp even though I understand some of the Japanese language quirks.
That's not a problem with the text translation. Just something to keep in mind for newcomers to this "genre" of playing a pc game that is actually a movie, audio book, and novel in one. Expect to be in a theater, reading a book, listening to music and audio books at the same time, rather than the usual stereotypical PC action gameplay.
It is a good experience, certainly far above spending 20 dollars at Chik fillet. And the 20 dollars was well spent in my view. You will get more than 4 hours but less than 10 hours of reading time by my estimation. Just enjoy the ride.
P.S. One can interpret the title "Fault" to mean "Whose Fault it is". There is a bit of mystery to the plot for those that like mystery thrillers. This is comparable to the Western mystery thriller genre but not quite the same. I give it 5 stars not based on its length but its impact on my experience. Only issue I take with it is that they didn't have enough to slot the sequel in as the underwater quest should really have been included.
Compared with the previous work, there is not so fierce thinking collision, but the improvement of the world outlook is more realistic.
The growth of the characters is amazing, and the rhythm of the game is still so complete at one go.
相比上一个作品来讲没有那么激烈的思维碰撞,但对世界观的完善显得更有真实感。
角色的成长令人感到惊喜,游戏节奏依旧是那么一气呵成。
I had played milestone one right after eden* (mangagamer.com version), which plays in a league of its own. Perhaps that's why I gave only 4* there.
Milestone two was really great fun and a thrilling story. It's a bit longer than milestone one and deals with societal problems. Early industrialization inequality, exploitation and discrimination versus peaceful and egalitarian quasi-communism.
strong recommendation
A kinetic visual novel and the followup to fault milestone one, that continues Selphine, Rune and Ritona's journey back home as they visit another town. More about the world is also shown with some focus given to the other members of their home nation, though the focus is still mainly on our heroines. Like its predecessor you can expect (mostly) fun interactions between characters, engaging if at times questionable writing and an interesting fantasy world delivered with nice art and music. The main villain does feel comically overpowered and this arc does end too soon and on a strange note, but otherwise I recommend it and its predecessor if you like fantasy visual novels, though it seems like it might not be certain if there will be another followup with how long it's been.
