Description
Station Life is the second expansion to Deep Sky Derelicts that, as its name suggests, focuses on turning the station, your scavenger home and safe haven, into a livelier and more varied place to be, more useful and versatile hub of scavenging operations, and a more compelling experience overall.

The overhauled station brings new possibilities to further upgrade and customize your crew by crafting custom weaponry and equipment, re-training and neurally enhancing your squad members, and even changing their looks to your liking. The DLC also throws at you a handful of randomly generated but constantly challenging encounters and timed events that involve other station dwellers and may easily catch you off guard while always putting either your combat prowess, your luck or your business acumen to a test. To top it all off, the local bar now offers you a bunch of high-profile bounty contracts to pursue during your derelict raids for unique trophies and hefty coin rewards. Oh, and there is a new recruit class, the Inventor, waiting for you there!

New and enhanced station facilities:
- Crafting Workshop (extension of the Research Workshop) that allows to craft any type of equipment after disassembling an item of the corresponding type.
- Advanced Medical services: Experimental Surgery Department and Neural Reprocessing Facility that allow:
- installing neural implants that enhance various skills and abilities of individual crew members;
- re-training crew members by resetting and re-allocating their ability points; (available to base game owners free of charge!!!)
- and customizing crew members' visual appearance including changing characters' portraits and individual elements of their scavenger suits. (available to base game owners free of charge!!!)
- New technology upgrades in the Research Workshop related to crafting and implants.

Station random encounters:
- Defending the station from randomly intruding raiders;
- Peaceful communication with station dwellers and fellow scavengers;
- Bargaining with various kinds of traders including shady dealers coming with high-risk high-reward offers;
- Brawling with rival scavenger crews;
- All set in new station environments with unique room backgrounds.

New contracts and missions:
- 10 brand-new Bounty contracts to locate and eliminate elite enemy groups that pose an increased threat to the player with their special gear and traits but promise hefty rewards;
-  A dozen new side missions to complete and a bunch of new NPC encounters to discover and enjoy.

Miscellaneous:
- A new playable class: Inventor - a sturdy, melee-combat oriented character that lacks shields but applies unique health regeneration abilities on the battlefield to compensate for that;
- New equipment types especially useful for hybrid class specializations, along with new illustrious mods and new handy consumables;
- 6 new nasty enemy types of varied power and nature to further increase diversity on board and across derelicts.

More add-ons to expand the game

Much as with the first DLC, the official description above really does accurately convey what this does. This DLC adds more options to the station and your mercs. The Good: The Inventor is an intriguing class. In a game that relies so heavily on maintaining shielding, here comes the class with none. There are plenty of skills built into the skill tree that help balance this out. The class uses a power glove, energy blade, and (at load-out) a medical tool and weapon tool. Random encounters on the station are interesting and break up the monotony of return to base, heal, sell, upgrade, leave. It's also nice to encounter more non-hostile rival scavengers sometimes. Bounties give some more chances for higher credit rewards if you don't get much loot. Implants provide a way to fill in some 'holes' in your mercs abilities. The Bad: For others, this will actually be good, but for me, I've never really gotten onboard with the whole 'craft your own everything' trend that's been out there for awhile. It devalues finding that great mod or weapon in the store or on a ship, and instead lets you build up equipment to your current level with a slot machine-like mechanic for a lower cost than the store. While the randomness prevents you from abusing the system, it still adds something that detracts from those big loot finds (so if you're like me, you may try it out, but won't use it for much). The multi-tools are a double-edged sword. A mental/tech tool accepts mods for either mental or tech. With so much loot to sort through already, it just adds to the pile for me since a dedicated tool will generally outperform the multi-tool for its specific trait. It's just a little much for me, although I can see others liking this pretty well. Bottomline: This DLC adds mostly good to the game, and if you don't like the other features, you can avoid using them. I like the first DLC better, but fans will likely have a good time with both.

Nice but not amazing

The new additions fit in very well. The crafting adds another option for all the trash you bring home: You can disassemble weapons/tools to craft new ones instead of just selling them. It's a bit luck based and balanced, so you won't just construct OP stuff and breeze through the game. The neuro implants are fitting to the sci fi setting and present new options, too. I would've liked more options though. There are about 5-6 high level implants (if I remember correctly) with no drawbacks at all, so naturally you'll just save up and get them. Maybe add 2-3 with some crazy effects like some Fallout perks. The inventor class plays great, the idea of being shieldless is well executed and interesting. The new random encounters at the station seem like a good idea to make the game more lively, however in my playthrough I sadly never encountered these two: - Defending the station from randomly intruding raiders; - Brawling with rival scavenger crews; This may be due to a bug. It's not that easy to balance these kinds of encounters to not make them obnoxious by occuring too often or boring by occuring too rarely. So sadly I can't judge how they handled it. So all in all if you like this game you can't go wrong with getting this DLC and supporting the dev. It adds some nice new additions that are fitting to the atmosphere and balanced. Don't expect anything too crazy though, the core gameplay and mechanics remain the same.

Station encounters kill the game

So it's remaining a nice addon, just skip all the new encounters, as often we come back from space derelicts in bad shape, and encounters are here to finish us being killed.
