Caves of Qud

So another user said that non-steam users are blocked from downloading mods from the caves of qud steam worshop page, meaning if you have the gog version, or any version of the game (not on steam) that you pretty much can never get the mods for the game. This is extremely painful for me because while I would like to experience the main game, mods offer huge amounts of replayability and can take a game from a 10/10 experience, to even as high as a 20/10 experience. It can be a great game, and then mods can make the game amazingly even better somehow. I tried to access the mods and apparently steam or the developer or someone has it blocked, supposedly confirming what the other person said about being unable to get the mods. The reason this is so painful for me is that I will never experience all that content that the community lovingly made for the game, and it is also so painful for me because I can not possibly imagine in a MILLION YEARS, WHY, the developer would (supposedly) ever block players from accessing the mods. This has stopped me from purchasing the game, even while the game is on sale for 10% off. I just can't believe it. This is just wrong, I'm deeply hurt by this. I was very ready, so close to buying it. I really wanted to experience this game, but I can't support this kind of behavior, if the developer is actually supposedly behaving this way. I can't access mods, instant NO BUY.

Honestly, I am a pretty big fan of roguelike games. I even still have the files for the free Wu Tang Clan roguelike dungeon crawler on my PC. This one is pretty good. I has some pretty deep and open ways to do things. It's nothing particularly groundbreaking, but it does give you a lot of interesting and often pretty goofy ways to tackle problems. Overall, a somewhat above-average roguelike for the money. That said, I did discover this game through the recent review by Ssethtzeentach on YouTube. I have been following his channel since he was in the same general squad at Flimsii and Fitzthistlewitz (RIP Fitz). He started his review series with more satirical stuff early on, such as dunking on FO4 or reviewing Nekopara. Over time, he has become a reviewer I trust on finding weird, interesting, and/or generally lesser known games. Usually when Sseth reviews a game like this, it sends a lot of new people to buy the game and try it out, whether on Steam or GOG (which Sseth tends to provide discount codes for on some games). Generally, devs have been very positive about this. They welcome the new fans since they do have a pretty deep appreciation for Sseth's quirky taste in games before even purchasing the one's he recommends. It didn't go that way this time, because the developers of this game are toxic as hell, yet pretending that they are the ones being treated rudely or unfairly in this scenerio. After a lot of people, myself included, saw Sseth's video and bought the game, the devs called out Sseth and has fanbase as "cryptofascists" and basically kicked a hornet's nest. The worst part is, I don't even think it's unwarranted to be upset at the devs, since after expelling Sseth's fans from the game's Discord, the devs kepts provoking and smearing them on Twitter, going as far as to screencap and make fun of people who were defending Sseth. It's like Sseth gave someone a dollar, told all his friends to do it, and then they kept the money and called him an asshole.

CoQ review here. Game is a brutal, relentless cavalcade of my own self inflicted disasters. I love it. Do you want to play as a six-armed mutant, able to dismember six limbs at once? Do you want to play as a horrific psyker able to summon rifts in time and space? Or perhaps being the racial purist, augmented with the latest and greatest in cybernetics, is more your shtick? Did you ever want to turn back time to erase your mistakes using quantum mechanics? Did you dream of being hungry, finding a grove of bananas only for the bananas to skin you alive and eat you (we've all been there once)? Then CoQ is the right game for you. You must be asking yourself, why not 5 stars then? Simple. Modding in this game doesn't work, and devs seem to be actively hostile to the community.

As started before, no mod support for players that use GOG to purchase the game. There is a CLEAR bias towards steam users, why even release on here if you're just gonna take my money and be a dick about it? Devs are toxic and fucking gross towards the people that gave them money for this thing. If you're here because of sseth, leave now, they don't like or respect you as a human or a customer. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It's good, but not good enough to justify putting money in these people's pockets. Sad.
