Heads up!

This game contains humour, strong language, and violence that some may find offensive. You may find it offensive in other ways, too. We do.

Disclaimer!

Stainless Games had no involvement in the development of Carmageddon: TDR 2000. So, you have been warned.

Final Warning!

So, hopefully that's clear now. Carry on!

Yes, it's the game literally... SOME of you asked for! And so, in the spirit of "well, alright then, if you insist..." we present the third game in the Carmageddon series, in the knowledge that some of you Carma fans out there would like to have a complete Carmageddon collection in your GOG library. Nothing wrong with that.

Anyway, here's what the blurb on the back of the DVD case had to say about Carmageddon: TDR 2000:

The world's most controversial racing game returns with incredible graphics, fantastic game play and even more outrageous fun!

Max Damage, imprisoned for life, plots his escape. However, there's the small matter of an army of police, hordes of gangsters and thousands of enraged inhabitants - all with homicide on their minds. To succeed, it will take a four wheeling genius with no morals, a killer instinct and a burning passion to escape.

No such person existed... until now!
  • Drive 50 totally destructible vehicles.
  • Over 48 missions and races to complete.
  • 9 completely 3D single player environments to explore and destroy.
  • 7 multi-player game types in 9 custom maps.

Great game - Quite different atmosphere!

So i started by playing the demo of the first Carmageddon. Loved the game and was playing it for 1 year. Yes, you read that right! I was playing the demo for 1 year. Then came Carmageddon 2 which i absolutely loved! Much better than the first one and the one that made me a metalhead thanks to it's awesome soundtrack. Around 2000 came the third game. Different developer, Very different atmosphere. Can't remember much about the music though. First of all this game has a set of maps and for most of the maps you'll have to play 4 matches and 4 missions. The matches are against AI and you'll have to either kill all the pedestrians, complete all the laps or destroy all your opponents (which i always found easier and more rewarding). As for the missions : That's a LOT of missions! Something that was introduced with Carmageddon 2 by the way. Now bear in mind that they are timed and you have to find clever ways and shortcuts in order to complete them cause they are not that forgiving. But what made me love this game is it's atmosphere. The bleakest atmosphere of all in the series, it has that steampunk/psychopunk/gutterpunk vibe that will win many people over (and yes i've been inventing words from this point). If you loved playing GTA 2 at dusk or love being the mastermind of chaos (thanks to the missions), you will love this game. And it's not nostalgia goggles folks. I've played this game at 2014 again (4th playthrough) and i loved it for the same reasons! First map is kind of shiny, but under that fake shine you can see the rot that has taken over since the ending of Carmageddon 2 (no spoilers folks...). The AI of the peds is also great and you'll be in for a few surprises. Hope you have a fire extinguisher in your car... Oh also, the afterburner powerup works much differently than the other games and please try it while you're on the air. That was my hint for you.

Great racing game. Crappy Carmageddon

Carmageddon 1 and 2 were not just car combat/racing games. They were truly Car-Scrambling-Ped-Splatterin'-Cow-Manglin' simulators, filled with content, classy dark humour, and great sense of freedom. Unlike these games, Turdy Distortion Racing 2000 - made by Aussies (Torus Games) is way too serious (No crude words in power-up and power-down names?! What?!), way too lazy (4-minute max. time limit in all races is most idiotic thing in whole game) and WAY TOO boring. (Even missions in Carma2 were more interesting than in this piece of... Code!) Are you Carma fan? Buy it only for collection purposes. Are you arcade-racing fan? Grab it. Are you regular retro-gamer? Stay away - as far as you can! Actually there's only one positive thing about this game: it's well polished and even better optimized, unlike Stainless' majority of products. Top Kek. Oh, hold on for a sec- THERE ARE NO GRANNIES IN THIS GAME?! DON'T BUY! DON'T BUY!!! 0/10!!!

It's ok.

Hey remember Carmageddon 2 and the special missions? You know. The extra hard nutcrackers that appeared after every 3 normal races most people needed dozens of tries to complete? Well this game feels just like that except it's not every 3 levels but nearly all of them. The time bonuses for rolling over pedestrians and wrecking opponents are pittance at best so the optimal way of getting through the game is... racing... ACTUALLY RACING. So long story short. if you want Carmageddon 2 with prettier graphics look elsewhere (Like the 2016 Carmageddon). If you want a Destruction Derby 2 or Flatout with a a much more open map and pedestrians you might find some enjoyment here.

Best of the bunch

I know the store page is meant to be funny and all, but come on, Stainless couldnt even COPY their own game from 15 years ago with Reincarnation, while TDR2000, released just a couple years later, surpassed both Carma 1 and 2, and yet Stainless have the nerve to bash it. At least it was ambitious and tried changing things up. Here is why i enjoyed it most: -While the original two were fun, it was impossible to actually race there. The cars were too heavy, too hard to steer, with too much momentum. The tweaked physics in TDR are for the better if you wanted some racing, not just fooling around. -Carma 1 and 2 were way too easy. It was very easy to amass lots of time by going over peds and hitting opponents. And then what? There was no point to race, you just went around wasting opponents. -The reduced bonus times mean that you should actually race in TDR, there is a risk of messing up and having to restart, you have to pay attention to getting the good power ups and avoiding the bad, had to pay attention to your driving, the opponents, the traffic and had to hunt and get the time powerups. And if you wanted to just roam around killing things (like every single 'race' in the orignals ended up), there was free ride. Simple. -It's a challenging game and you need to pay attention to the layout. ex, putting a turn after a big jump. Or putting harmful power ups in tight spaces. Peds attacking you, throwing stuff at you, avoiding you much better, makes the game unpredictable and challenging. -The opponents do come after you, but not as much as before, which again is an improvement. All i had to do before was loiter around somewhere and all the opponents will come to me. Easy to to gain time and easy to waste them. -It feels more like a racing game, has great levels, great powerups and a ton of cars and its fun and re-playable. Carmageddon 1 and 2 are fun to mess around in, with the ridiculous physics and laid back gameplay, but they feel like toys not games. -TDR2000 tweaked the car physics (so now the cars can be controlled and raced), reduced the insane amount of time you got from killing, made the races challenging, added fun missions with a sense of progression, and finally made a game out of the series. -I have Carmageddon 1 currently installed, but i haven't played it much since i started replaying TDR. Because there is no point in racing (not to mention barely feasible because of the sluggish cars and floaty physics), the game can get repetitive. There is no challenge really. Just ram your opponents a few times you've got five minutes of time already. Kill a few peds, and you've got ten. Game over. -It's fun ramming cars and what not, and so is Carmageddon 2 (car deformation is done best in Carma2), but as games they are not as good as TDR.

Good Game, 3,5 stars.

Not the best Carmageddon game, because it not from the original game developer. The destruction of the cars are not so good as in Carmageddon II. The car physics are great, also the suspension of the cars. This Carmageddon TDR 2000 version is includes the extension 'The Nosebleed Pack', very nice!
