Blazing Beaks

This is one of those games that has a lot of potential, but it fails to deliver in a number of ways, The game is very similar to Enter The Gungeon, but with a rather unique twist. The game requires you to pick up negative abilities/artifacts (such as decreased speed or health) and carry them for a certain period of time in order to progress in the game. At some point you will be able to sell these negative abilities/artifacts in the weapons shop in order to gain positive abilities (such as increased health). However, the vast majority of the positive abilities are actually garbage, and you can never really progress beyond a certain point without having EXTREME luck (say 1 out of every 100 games played). Unfortunately the game doesn't offer nearly as much content as Enter The Gungeon (weapons, items, etc). After playing the game for nearly 12 hours, I can safely say that the game also becomes extremely repetitive. I have yet to make it past the third level, despite changing up my playing style on a number of occasions, so be prepared to fight the first and second dungeons dozens and dozens of times. I always enjoy a challenge, but this takes it a little too far. It's certainly a fun time-waster, but be prepared to expect a lot of frustration.

It's unfair to give this game less than 4- or 5-stars review, because it's a good roguelite which compiled very good decisions from Enter the Gungeon and Nuclear Throne - and after that added some new tunes. This game is minimalistic (one screen for each level), it has very repetitive core loop (it looks like Nuclear Throne) and not so much content (weapons, monsters, locations). But... but it still plays great because of good random. It plays definitely as Binding of Isaac - one of 20 or even 50 runs will be brilliant, so you have to replay again and again to find which one. So, the main and the absolute plus of this game is replayability. Seed runs will never be the same - and it's very fun.

I bought Blazing Beaks on Nintendo Switch some time ago and recently discovered that i played it more than Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And i LOVE Zelda. Graphics are so cute (platypus FTW), sounds are simply awesome. But most of all - I love the replayability factor in this little gem. I managed to beat the game, but am still starting over, trying to discover some more artifacts, test new weapons and try harder difficulty levels. The only problem is once you get the rhythm it could take ~20 minutes to beat the game. I am still hoping for some additional content (free, maybe? wink wink).

The game is super hard but that is part of the fun you need to gamble your approach with certain loots like It’s like a tango between luck and skills. In my personal opinion someone who played a lot of roguelikes it doesn't have much content the amount of perks and weapons are clearly lacking but it's simple yet brilliant design makes up for it, the procedurally generated levels will force you to try something a little different each time. It definitely will take time to practice so don’t stress it the cursed items are optional you don’t have to necessarily pick them up and keep debuffing your character unless you want to take a gamble of course it comes with its own unique reward you make your character truly invincible but proceed with caution as you also greatly increase your chance of dying early. Overall great roguelike especially for those who want a challenge don't fooled by the silly music and graphics this game is unforgiving so have fun :)
