Description
Akihabara. "Akiba," for short.

This suburban Tokyo ward's seen it all, from Japan's post-war reconstruction to the economic bubblegum crisis of the '80s. Always on the cutting edge of progress, with a little something to offer even the most fetishistic of appetites, it was almost inevitable that this singular technocracy of indulgence would give birth to a whole new kind of appetite altogether.

Enter, the “Synthisters” – vampires who prey upon the life energy of the town’s unsuspecting figurine-chasers, maid café connoisseurs and cosplayers. Those victimized by Synthisters take on the properties of their attackers while also withdrawing from society and becoming veritable shut-ins due to their newfound fatal weakness to sunlight.

AKIBA’S TRIP tells the story of one such unfortunate soul: a young man named Nanashi who was lured into a trap by the promise of rare character goods and transformed into one of the walking undead. He, however, was spared the worst of his fate by the bloody kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku. Together with the rest of his companions in an organization unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and Shizuku must uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akiba from being overrun by violent, antisocial energy vampires.

And of course, the best way to fight vampires is to strip them down to their skivvies so they melt in the noonday sun…

Anything can be a weapon, from baseball bats to comics to motherboards, and individual clothing items may be targeted, stripped and added to the player’s own inventory.

Satirical Story with Divergent Paths and Multiple Endings
Playing off common anime and video game tropes for social satire, the player’s choices determine how the story progresses, leading to one of many unique endings.

Modern Day Setting Enhances Gameplay Options and Adds Pop Culture Feel
The in-game smartphone is used to check email, read comments on “Pitter,” take side quests, catalog ad flyers, launch apps to identify the undead and much, much more.

*Please note that the buildings and monuments depicted in the game AKIBA'S TRIP are based on the Akihabara town area from the fall of 2012 through the summer of 2013.*

Finally, this game is here.

Having played this game fully on PS4, I'm glad to see it on GOG. Fantastic game packed with content and tons of details/authentic recreations of locations+stores from Akibahara. The biggest issue I've had with this game, rather sadly, was the localization affecting various parts of the writing. It can often take you out of the experience, which is a shame due to how much story this game has. Each Ending Path feels different, with unique gameplay and content to gain from it. NG+ is where things get way more impressive, thanks to the absolute customization it enables. This game makes so much customizable to what you want, as well as each customization being able to reach end-game potential thanks to upgrading. You can look how you want, especially with the lack of gender locks on clothing after you reach the mid-game. The grind can be grueling at times, but it's thankfully lessened later on when you've got the cash to splash. I have not played this port, but I wished to give my experiences with this game. It's fun, funny and cheesy. A good comfort purchase to sink 100+ hours into casually.

(S)trip!

Light-hearted and silly, but very fun game. And running around Akiba is fun. If you're acquainted with anime culture, you'll probably have a good time playing. If you don't like anime stuff, I'm not sure how you'll find it. I have it on Vita and have finished it a couple of times, though it should be fine on PC with a controller, with smoother graphics and framerate. If you're not sure whether you want to pay the full price, which is an alright price for it by itself, I'd say definitely grab it on sale. Glad GOG have added this game to the glorious DRM-free library.

Great Fun

Played this on steam and really enjoyed it. Not sure if GoG is going to be the same version with the same issues but I recommend playing with a controller for best gamefeel and to save early and save often as in my experience there was no autosave feature and I lost some progression to not saving manually when I should have.

One of the funniest games I've played

I actually own the PS4 version as well and it's one of the funniest games I've ever played. The fact that this has been released on GOG gives me some hope with the upcoming remake of the first game as well.

Enjoyable action-packed JRPG

Not really what I'm used to playing myself particularly, but the environment is very colorful and I might even consider looking into the other games in the series. For the most part, it's a great game and silly at times just by nature. Something to consider before purchasing is that this is the straight console version of the game due to it showing instructions on playing with an Xbox controller so controls might be a bit tough to get used to if you're unfamiliar. It was a nice change of pace to play a JRPG with action and exploration. Worth picking up more games similar to this if you're into that sort of thing.
