You'd wish you were never invited

[played this on Epic back when it was first released] I loved Oxenfree. It was charming, well-written, spooky, and genuinely funny at times. Afterparty is a trainwreck. The main idea is cool. The actual plot, though, feels too meandering and pretentious. I felt zero emotional connection to any of the characters, least of all the two main protagonists. The writing is painfully tryhard and obnoxious, trying to replicate Oxenfree's hip vibe and failing at every turn. Gameplay is pretty basic, much like in Oxenfree. They added a bunch of -poorly explained- mini games to offer some variety and raise the stakes. Those can be occasionally fun to tackle but mostly annoying because of the lack of tutorial. Art is pretty good, the music is ok and the voice actors did a great job. Sadly, their efforts are wasted in delivering lame lines that are nowhere near as witty as the writers thought. I really hope Night School will bounce back from this and give us another indie gem in the vein of Oxenfree sometimes in the future.

unbelievable dull ..

First of all: i cannot believe the guys that did Oxenfree put out this unoptimized boring and liniar game. This game is utterly dull, you just walk and left mouse click one of two (or three if you're drunk) choices. There is no wrong choice either and almost no consequence. The game just carries you to 4 or 5 locations (mini islands) with 2-3 locations. There is nothing cool to explore, there are no secrets, there is no side mission. You get two types of mini games that you do once or twice in the whole game. Thats it. The music is alright but the voices are totally weird. You get female voices in bodies of big fat male demons and male voices in skinny bodies with.. well.. breasts. The character details are extremely low quality, everything visual looks low effort. Walking is a slow pain. The story has some good intent and there are RARELY few cool and meaningful dialogues to be had but the rest 95% of the conversations are stereotypical boring joke wannna be failures. Unbelievable this game exists like this. The main game screen with the intro is the best thing about this. Thats it. Just play Oxenfree if you want a cool indie game and not this.

A Really Interesting Take on Hell

(played this on Xbox One) Hillarious and witty. It's made by the developers of Oxenfree but in a lot of ways it's the polar opposite of it. The game isn't as scary but it has a lot of really in depth and clever worldbuilding. Main characters are relatable and side characters are extremely funny. The star of the game is definitely the worldbuilding and Hell itself. It's a really interesting take on it and it's really fleshed out. It's maybe not as good as Oxenfree but it's still really really good. If you liked Oxenfree, and games like Life is Strange, you'll probably find a lot to love in Afterparty.

Goofier that Oxenfree

Afterparty is a beautifully written and incredibly fun game. It can serve as a major disappointment for people who expected Oxenfree-like eerie vibe. But while gameplay is similar, the game is way more comedic, mory goofy and over-the top. So don't expect similar experience — but that's actually great, who needs to get too similar games? I liked it a lot, even though right now game lacks some polish (some animations were working not correctly, some little issues here and there). But nothing game-breaking and nothing that couple of patches can't fix.

I expected a lot more

The only things that I enjoyed in this game were the character/world design and voice acting. The story was weak and all the dialogue felt extremely forced. EVERY SINGLE DIALOGUE had to end with a joke (and most of them didn't really work for me) I also had a problem with the save file. I almost had to restart the game from the beginning because it randomly changed the saving location and stopped recognizing the default path.
