Röki

I'm finished, and sad and happy. What a lovely enchanting game. The art style is beautiful, the soundtrack - thanks to Aether - catches the atmosphere and the is so much love in detail. Especially in chapter three, when you change, just listen to the soundtrack which changes as well. Gameplay wise it is like many adventures you might know, takes this, combine these and see what happens. With some funny combinations. If you like Scandinavian Folklore, short not so challenging puzzles, and a hearthwarming but sad story, this game is just for you.

Röki did something that few games have managed to do. Made me shed a tear. The scenery our heroine Tove explores, felt so close to me. Game looked absolutely beautiful and sounded also. Themes game explored were nice also. Protect loved ones, suppressed memories, grudge. I think most of us find something relatable. If I had to criticize the game, it would be structure and bit wonky control scheme. Beginning of the was quite open and introduced so many puzzle beginnings, that would be solved much later. That felt quite overwhelming. I played the game on keyboard. I did get used to it, but targeting some items felt bit frustrating on few occasion. But puzzle design was good. Certain areas and acts introduced a gimmick, that would be used to solve puzzles. That kept puzzles refreshing. Overall, I would recommend Röki. I started recently wondering, how 3D point and click could be done well and Röki offered one solution. And it was quite pleasing game in the end. Buy it!

Its an amusing romp, but not a fantastic game. The story is interesting, some of the scenery is wonderful. Most of the puzzles though are either too easy and obvious or too hard. They are only too hard by virtue of the fact that you missed an object pickup somewhere along the way. Now you have to google it or search the whole world over again to find something you missed. I recommend painstakingly search every scene with every character the first time there. Even then you'll probaly miss some things. The GUI is frustrating as it requires 2 or more clicks to do snything. One click to start it and one or more to get through the character dialog about it. Many times I clicked to start something then waitied for it to happen, wondering why nothing happens, only to remember oh ya now I have to click through the dialog. All that being said I did play it, I did finish it, and I did enjoy it a modest amount.

Beautiful artwork, enganging and emotional story full of scandinavian myths. The reduced voiceacting took me some time to get used to, but it can be shut off entirely if that's not your cup of tea. The puzzles offer a surprising variety, especially in the later chapters of the game.
