Lost Eidolons

I was super excited for this game. Backed the kickstarter, played Betas, dove in right at launch. The game does way too many things that are extremely infuriating. Enemy reinforcements will puncture your lines and groups. You think you're right at the end of a level and then 12 more soldiers show up blocking the escape zone. You can't kill bosses without killing their 8 guards. And nothing really feels special or unique in the game. Play anything else other than this. Do not waste your time and money on this.

It is a solid Tactical RPG that takes most of its mechanics from Fire Emblem. There are three houses-style giant beasts, but you can also enjoy a sort of weapon triangle. It is very flexible with allowing for any unit to become any classes. Armor and weapon variety is a great addition that fleshes out the game. Battles feel fair, given the constraints of the genre. There are also the social sim elements that you see all around the genre, but they are very subdued. There are problems with the game. The character models are not amazing. The UI is not the best. The story didn't wow me (but it was more than serviceable). It is unfortunate that there is no option to add another layer to keep specific enemy unit ranges visible, but that is a very new quality of life innovation in the genre. I enjoyed my time with it very much. I think the price is a bit north of what it deserves for its level of polish, but it was a very fun way of spending 40ish hours. In reality, this game is a 4/5, but the number of people that tanked its score because they are unfamiliar with the genre is cruel. It is a fun game, if a bit rough around the edges, but it is a solid choice for any tactical rpg fans that want to scratch that niche itch.

This is the game that got me into strategy rpgs, which I had always avoided in the past. I love the heavy narrative focus, the gameplay is engaging, the voice acting is good. Its just an all around great game. If I had to think of a con... some of the model animations are copy pasted from character to character and its kind of noticable. But thats pretty nitpicky and I realize they were probably budget constrained and considering the game all around looks great, I'll let it slide. 5/5 highly reccomended, especially if you like Fire Emblem, or just rpgs with rich stories. Excited for what this studio puts out next.

A good game overall, A compelling story with pretty animated cutscenes, all with appreciable voice acting. The tactical game is an elaborate turn based chess/draughts type affair and Lost Eidolons has depth enough in a rock, paper scissors rule scheme that separates from the traditional board games. One criticism I would opine, simply I would have placed a greater value in an extra layer of depth in the tactical combat (for an instance, a height dynamic) than that which we currently have which is a first person perspective in the combat interim, which consists of managing ones squads relating to combat and affairs relating to the story, WASD point the mouse and click at what you would like to interact on the screen is for the lesser graphically talented such as the artist at bethesda! I would probably purchase an extended/branching storyline if released or a sequal, perhaps at the price of another five or so dollarpounds if my preferences were favoured.
