Nice Detective/Horror Mix
Interesting story driven game with a flawed, interesting anti-hero (for the ending I got anyways) character who simply refuse to be a victim. I really love the fact that many of the games' characters are layered and don't really feel like they are typical good or bad guys. Given the length of the game (3-5 hours I think), the characterization is quite good. From the choice I've had to make so far, it seems like you can chose to be monster or human. I mostly choose to be a human and shudder to explore some of the other endings (though I probably will). The story feels like a mix between a detective mystery and horror. It certainly makes you feel at least a little for what it must have been like to be a woman married to a bad husband before the women's liberation movement, though that is only one of the game's themes. For some criticisms that come to mind, a lot of the puzzles feel like filler and are a little bland and actually kind of weird at times. Also, the game uses a save point system, but I found it difficult to get proper feedback concerning when the game was saving so I had to needlessly repeat some segments. And finally, the mouse feedback felt a little off a lot the time, though it is still usable. In short, I found the gameplay left a little bit to be desired, but despite those flaw, I consider Loretta to be a good game that has a gripping dark story arc interwoven with some mysteries to solve. I would definitely recommend it for anybody who is into story driven games.
