NOTHING like the “infamous horse armor“
First of all: He doesn’t take up a spot for recruits and he can’t starve or dehydrate, in case anyone was worrying. He has a morning and evening action (done before the expedition site actions, which is important for the bonuses he can give) like everyone else. But can be fed (for affection gain; with crap meal or raw meat/fish) and trained (to improve his skills) at any time instantly. His skills (which cost energy to perform) are 1) rest (to replenish some of his energy, if the night cycle wasn’t enough; like the option for people, but without needing the rest area); 2) collecting [Fetch (bones), Find (wood/rope/fabric), Hunt (for raw meat/fish/crap meals), Get It (random special item)]; 3) “healing” (Lick the wounds) and comforting (Play with me) (both increase affection -dog- and lessen injury/depression respectively a little for the person in the camp who needs it most, which does not cost them their action); 4) giving bonuses for Kari (Come - Kari’s Doggy, +ini, less depression increase, +sca/expl/hunt) or the hole group (Guard – Guard Dog, +dodge, +eff resis; Attack – Battle Dog, +ini, +accur, +crit) for a few days (very useful, especially combined with the new expedition option “look for a fight”-but also very energy costly-, even more so if you upgrade them). Training depends on the level of affection (which decreases a bit over night) and always requires sufficient amounts of energy and bones and sometimes also raw meat or raw fish. I like this DLC a lot. I was initially a little miffed about the affection decrease over night, but I can see, that this is probably for balancing. Also there is no time limit in the game (anymore) and the dog doesn’t state an “expiring date”, so there should be plenty of time to level his skills. In the beginning probably not feasible on normal or hard difficulty (I play on easy) due to only two affection gaining actions (which have a higher energy cost) and less food to “waste” on the dog. I’m sorry for any spelling/grammatic/punctuation mistake.
