Review from a visual novel newbie
This is my first visual novel (ignoring Florence) so I can't compare this to other VNs and VN fans might object to my opinions, but hopefully I'll help newcomers like me. In summary, I think this is a decent first VN and I mostly recommend it, although I don't think I'll buy another VN soon, but that's mostly me and the genre, and not this specific VN's fault. Base your buying decision on the screenshots, the trailer isn't very representative. I chose this as my first VN because judging from a quick perusal of all VNs on sale at the time, storywise this deviates from the average (I might be wrong). As the description shows, you have been kidnapped but there's something odd about it. You might think your primary goal is survival, but it's actually something else; the ending you get (there are several) depends on how well you did that. Storywise I don't like it -I feel punished (getting the blink-and-you'll-miss-it ending) for not *thinking* the "right" way. Your character isn't developed except as a reflection of others. I got a few of the worse endings; I didn't want to find the others by trial-and-error, and the VN never tells how many actually are. Reading the walkthrough, the better endings are way harder to get because the smallest deviation from the path kills them; I wish it was more forgiving. There's autosave, and you can save at the beginning of each day. My advice: save the beginning of each day in its own saving slot, that way you can easily experiment, and after your first ending make liberal use of the fast-forward button. For some endings you'll have to start all over again, though. The translation is a bit rough but readable, with a couple typos; there's a missing dialog line; stamina is important unless it gets ignored because you picked the wrong path. Small contradictions and imprecisions take away from the immersion. Sometimes the VN gets really preachy and boring -I almost expected a "Vote YES on Prop 10" and a donation button.
