So I played my first game of classic Zafehouse Diaries. 2 people died almost instantly checking out the bar next door... Man I hate that bar... I didn't want to risk the others going in but I had to get them to an area with food so I made them all go to the store. They made refuge easily with little resistance and created a safehouse with strong barricades. one of my guys got injured and infected, another cut off his leg trying to save him but at the same moment the infected member was attacked again and killed. only 2 members left and no ammo :/. luckily I had plenty of blunt objects ready to put the beatdown so I had them go back to the bar to get ammo because there was quite a lot there... man I really hate that bar... they barricaded everything easily and sniped zombies for quite a while until a strange man came by. He was claiming that he's been hunting a super zombie. I accepted him into our stronghold. An hour later we found out that the man was not lying as the super zombie broke through our wall went straight for the strange man tearing his limbs off, and then it proceded to do the same to my crew :/. at least they went out fghting I guess.

the game was awesome and I loved it.

Please tell me what you did your first time :)
Hi 09167,

Tense stuff! Sorry you had to be shredded by "Moby Dick" (or so we call him internally).

If you like, you can export your diary at the end of a game and upload it to tome.zafehouse.com. You'll get a link that you can share with other players, so they can read of your exploits.

Yeah I exported it cuz I loved playing it and wanted to show my friends, Dang Moby Dick.... I would love to upload it to the site :D
My first time I experienced a glitch. So I had two survivors that wouldn't move out of the hospital no matter what I did. Unfortunately, without those two, the other three got shredded trying to bring back supplies. The last two ended up bickering until I just let the zombies overtake them.

My second time I let the old man in and the super zombie put an end to that tale really quick.

I think it was my fourth or fifth go-around that I took the "Loot and Raid" approach. Unfortunately, only one of my survivors was equipped for this lifestyle. I lost one survivor on the first breach, two on the third and the fourth on around the seventh or eighth. The last survivor ran practically all over town teaching zombies their place as he would take on ten or more at a time (!), often escaping unscathed. Finally he succumbed to his wounds which is probably a little better than being mutilated by a mob of zombies, but it would've been awesome if he found the rest of the victory items and escaped."We haven't heard from Craig in a while. He probably died breaching the hotel" wasn't a fitting eulogy for Craig the Zombie-Smasher.
I think I got really lucky, but I totally won on my first play through! I had a pretty shitty group...a cleaner and a musician, but it worked out really well!

Hardened baseball bats kick butt!

I got shotguns from a store, enough ammo to take the police station. By then I lucked out and found a radio, the frequency, and that it was going to be at the church.

I took the church and started securing it.

Luckily I had secured a warehouse, store, and hotel all nearby. That proved invaluable since my guys could enter the secured buildings in one turn without incident.

Anyways the zombies were starting to crowd so I made bonfire distractions over at the hotel. Those took the heat off me really nicely. I did it twice in fact!

The tough zombie showed up when 3 of my guys were away from the church looking for food. I lost one of my survivors, but the other took it out with a shotgun and a chair. Go figure that it was the black guy who died...typical Hollywood!

Anyways, the musician was out looking for food and he got infected. Our surgeon cut of his left arm....sad because his guitar playing had been a great motivator for the gang. Luckily the amputation stopped the infection.

His arm was still needing treatment and we couldn't do anything about it. Plus everyone was starving. Then, thank God, the helicopter came! I can only hope that our amputee was able to get medical attention soon enough.

I had a lot of fun playing it through and I feel like there's still a lot more to the game...great game!
Awesome aramazon. :)

You don't realise just how beneficial barricading is until you can waltz in and out of somewhere without having to fight all the time. Also helps stop food spoiling from having the odd corpse around.

Once you've had a good play of Classic, be sure to give Road Kill a go. It's similar in that you need to search the town for information (and car parts), but because there's no real time limit, you have to alter your playing style in some basic ways to survive.

Keep the stories coming, please, really enjoy reading them. :)
I finally beat the first game mode myself last night. Went pretty smooth too with what I got dealt. Had a firefighter, a mechanic, a cleaner, a surgeon and an athlete.

I stared out fully searching the starting house and modifing some weapons for close combat (pistol, machete and 2 baseball bats) and then got moving pretty quick. I basically went with all 5 survivors at a time breaching each of the non-special buildings doing just one hour searches in most to find the clues (if any) and then move on right away. Lighting a fire here and there to draw zombies away from the unsearched areas I was heading to at key times. I did modifiy another handgun, a bolt-action rifle, another baseball bat and a crossbow not to far into the game (again for close combat), but that was the extent of my modifing in the game.

Looking back (and even while I was still in game I knew it already) the modding of the crossbow was a waste of time since while I found an ok amount of quarrels I found a lot more .223R, 9mm and 12ga ammo. So not that long after modding the crossbow I ditched it to carry other items (this time spent here could have cost me later on as i'll explain later;).

Some of the pluses to my group makeup were that 3 of the survivors were really good at cleaning up corpses. After i'd breach a building i'd set one survivor to search (for the early to around mid point in the game for anything useful or food items and later on just weapons and ammo), another survivor for watching and the other 3 for cleaning up corpses. That way any meals with me wouldn't get spolied (hopefully, although, some did at points) and i'd usually but not always find some ammo.

Some of the relationships weren't great either to start so a top priority early on while constanly breaching loctions was to prepare a large meal and hold a feast. Worked wonders:) Also helped that I ran into a few places that had a lot of cooking ingredients:) I'd do it in a farther part of the map near the edge in a spot where I had searched all or most of the non-special buildinds and then light another bonfire afterwards and move off to the unsearched areas. Worked well in preventing large mobs from surrounding the buildings I would breach afterwards.

Ran into the women with the cart early on and choose the option to kill her as I hadn't tried it before. Got nothing I needed and didn't get the cart at all either.

Had to deal with the super zombie (whenever I think of that title and get that event I think of the super zombies in the one Zombies!!! game expansion) at about midway in-game at the latest or a little earlier; but since I had decent weapons it went without a hitch. No survivors got killed or injured. Getting the motion sensor and high powered rifle were big helps. Made clearing out building when I breached them go even faster. Was also a great help with the police station, WHICH I assaulted first and killed 17 of 19 zombies and then breached. I wasn't going to breach first as the risk of injuries/death was too great.

No injuries taken then and got that nice big stock pile of weapons and ammo:) Made the rest of the breaching go even quicker and worry free for the most part due to the good weapons and plenty of ammo. Plus the motion sensor was great for spotting all the zombies around me.

I did end up having to go back to some melee weapons for a bit having run out of shotgun ammo, but still always had .223R ammo on me for the high powered rifle and semi-auto rifle. This was until I got back around to the police station and went with handguns then in place of the other weapons except the high powered rifle as that big stockpile of 9mm ammo was there still. I also ditched the semi-auto rifle around this time for two reasons. One, .223R ammo was starting to get too low for my liking and the 3 weight was a bit too much. So I went nearly the whole rest of the way with just the high powered rifle and 4 handguns (none of it modded)..

Didn't take any injuries amazingly till near the last day, and that was just on one of my survivors. Minor ones at that. Some small cuts, and it was from a survivor cutting themselves on some broken factory equipment...go figure:) This wasn't too long before I breached one of the last two remaining buildings in the game that hadn't been breached yet. Both of them special buildings as well. One was the Church and the other was the Bar I believe. I should also note that I had found all the info and found the radio frequency up to this point...EXCEPT for the radio itself.

I choose to breach the chruch first as it was much closer to where my team was currantly located. That and the fact the evac spot was the hospital (which I knew from a piece of info I found earlier) which was up north and right next to the Bar anyway which I hadn't breached yet. I didn't assault the church first (believe me I wanted too since I knew it would be packed with zombies being a special location) due to the fact it was real close to the end of the 7 days and I didn't have much time left.

I knew it was 50/50 but went to the church first for the reasons listed above (distance and lack of time) and killed most of the zombies on the first hour inside, but I ended up having a survivor get killed even though there wasn't that many left to clear out after the first hour of breaching. Funny part was the survivor that got killed was the one with the minor injuries of cuts they had gotten from that broken factory equipment:)

After the second hour of breaching all zombies were taken out and I set one survivor to search, one to watch and the rest to clean up corpses. Clicked the watch and...FOUND the radio:) At the same time it was noted that the chopper could be slightly heard in the distance. So I set my remaining 4 survivors to breach the hospital which was 2 hours away and off I went. First click of the watch and first of my last two hours remaining and they were halfway there. It was noted the chopper would be leaving within the hour. Second click of the watch and the last remaining hour of time I had left and...JUST made it in time to the hospital as the chopper was going to leave along with it being noted that there were a LOT of zombies around, and in the hospital again to say the least. My 4 remaining survivors just barely got there as time was just running out to get out alive:) If I had to take one more hour I wouldn't have made it. Talk about cutting it razor close.

I should also note I was running very low on ammo near the end too, and had enough to kill what zombies I needed too in the last breach and clearing out with just a little bit left over. Also as I mentioned earlier that time I spent modding that crossbow almost cost me. I think it was 3 hours it took to mod it and that 3 hours could have been the difference between a win and a loss if the radio hadn't been in the church. If it had been instead in the last building not breached after the Church (the Bar) I would have had enough time to get there and get the radio IF I HADN'T
modded that crossbow (the hospital was right next to the Bar). But since I had modded that crossbow, and if the radio wasn't in the church I wouldn't have had enough time to get the radio from the Bar. Luckily the radio was in the Church instead. I choose...wisely;)

I also saved the diary of that game as well as it was such a great one:)
I really need to remember to send bullets with the people taking the gun on assaults.

book99: I really need to remember to send bullets with the people taking the gun on assaults.
I did that a few times
Well, this is a first of sorts. I've only played a few games so far, and I've yet to survive until day three... Anyway, my last game was the first time I actually managed to get my group to be at ease with one another thanks to the rumor system. But what do I do? I squander all that in one move as I tried a full-force breach on a hospital (which was an especially dumb move after I had just traded nick-knacks for first aid supplies), and my whole group became an undead's delightful buffet. I had no indication from previous investigations that this would happen to me as only a couple zombies were spotted... but I ended up being swarmed by thirty within the building. Unless I'm mistaken a breach cannot be aborted while in progress - I had a bad feeling on the initial first round breach entry... Sure would have been nice to have the ability/chance to retreat once you know that the odds may not be in your favor.
It's 9:00 PM on the first day. I've successfully breached the neighboring house and brought back supplies to my base. Found one clue for the Classic mode. Everyone is alive and uninjured.

A first for me.

Great game!!!
I don't really remember my first game, but (copying this from another post of mine) the most epic event I had was when I got rushed by an angry mob and zombies at the same time. The angry mob beat my survivors up, left a few for dead, then fought the zombies, and in the end all but 2 survivors and a few more members of the angry mob survived. The angry mob, refusing to let my guys off, pursued them, and they split up. One got shot en route to another building, another made it into an abandoned house. Alone and with dusk approaching, he quickly barricaded the entryways, but the zeds were already closing in. They got him after 2 hours of futile barricading.
Finally gave in and bought Zafehouse. I can definitely say I was not disappointed. And I don't think I did bad for my first session. Just made one error that led to my party's end. But I expect that. It reminds me of playing Castle of the Winds; there's the random factors you can't control that can end up killing you. I love rogue-likes. It's simple in design, but they can offer so much more than the big-budget games.

I actually played Road Kill mode for my first session, found here: http://tome.zafehouse.com/toyux78c. But I'll make the main points short (sorta): found the map in my starting location; searched around, found out there was an ambulance nearby; made my way in securing three locations and found/upgraded many useful items, including parts for the ambulance. Everyone was healthy, good relations all-around, regularly patrolling, and was about to make my way to the hospital with all the gear.

Until one event: THE LITTLE GIRL. Oh, if only if it was as easy as scaring her. Nope, I killed her. Not outright, she turned and they put her down. Should've expected her family was looking for her. And I made mistake #2: lying. Her family eventually came back and killed me. I chose to fight, but I don't think that was going to end well anyways.

This made me think a bit. Mainly, I was hoping there was nothing outside my door as all the lights are out. But more, I hope the random events aren't one-note, that whatever happens wouldn't be the only casualty possible. I'll assume they aren't and I was just unlucky/made stupid decisions.

I think I'll stick with classic mode for a while. Road-Kill seems like it would take more than a week in-game to beat the way I play.

*Started Classic, went bust but I forgot to save the diary. Went another time, one of the survivors was a 40-year-old, gay priest. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My first game I seemed to get a pretty good team with a Carpenter, Athlete, Mechanic, Firefighter and Surgeon. No horrible relationships, only one orange to start with. After poking around for a few minutes I figured I might want to check out the manual. So downloaded it and followed it's suggestions for the first play. My carpenter Chase didn't have much to offer other than barricading skills, but figured he was the least liked of the group and he could be sacrificed if necessary. He got to stay behind and start searching, but as he turns out he's pretty hopeless at searching too, but my other 4 I split into two teams to breach each of the neighboring buildings one of which was a house and one a store, primarily looking for weapons and food since didn't start with much of either. Was successful in breaching without any injuries and both teams searched their houses in a couple hours and turned up a bunch of supplies. Meanwhile Chase didn't even manage to search one room, so had just set him to being a lookout which was one other thing he could do decently. After looking at the number of openings in each of the buildings decided on the store as my temporary safehouse. Also found one clue as to the location for the pickup
Sent chase with as much as he could hold to breach from the starting house to the store, and after cleaning up the dead sent my team of two from the house on the next street over to the store also.

Got it all barricaded and sent a team back to each of the other houses to pick up supplies that I found but couldn't carry. Unfortunately found out the hard way that an unsecured building gets zombies back in it very quickly but thankfully everyone survived their encounters with only one injury. Had them clear the corpses again and started barricading but it got dark too quickly and with Chase all alone in the store didn't seem safe, so got them all back into the store.

Had my surgeon, William, start building traps and modifying items as he showed skills for both of those
The others played cards, chess, worked out and kept their eyes out for zombies.
Got a small crowd outside but wanted to keep the noise down so just let them be and kept watch overnight.
Unfortunately even after looting 2 houses and a store didn't have much food so the snacks were gone by day 2
Tried a rumor and it did improve the relationship of 2 of my team with Chase

Ran another supply run to pick up some more weapons from one of the houses and made it back in one piece with just some minor scratches. The small crowd of zombies just wouldn't go away though. So William, my surgeon, patched up the two minor injuries and went back to modifying items.
Set the two injured women, Emily the firefighter and Melissa the athlete to watching out for zombies and sent Chase and Taylor (my mechanic) out to break the library across the street after an initial investigation only showed 5 zombies.

Too bad it was Chase who had done the investigation as he and Taylor got mobbed by 30 zombies after their initial foray killed only killed 3. Had the game crash just an hour or two later though when I was trying to figure out what to do next and thankfully when I restarted the game not only did it still have my save but it still had it from the start of day 2 from when I had saved and exited previously.

So redid my supply run and this time sat most of the day trying to do recon and sniping, then sent my whole team with all they could carry to the restaurant as they were almost nearly all starving by this point.
Successfully breached and killed the dozen or so zombies inside. The whole team chowed down on food a short while later while splitting the team up to keep a watch out, make barricades and searching.

Completed the search and got all the entrances secured and traps up, but met the zombie hunter asking for help.
Figured I better help him but the zombie crashed through my defenses killing my leader Taylor along with the hunter, but being taken out by Emily my firefighter and William was able to bandage the injuries.
Got replacement barricades up and started trapping as it was already night by this point but a huge crowd of zombies showed up outside and while they didn't attack since noise was low I had to hunker down and try and wait for them to go away.

My survivors got some rest taking shifts watching the large crowd of zombies and repairing the one or two barricades that were damaged. Come morning the crowd of zombies had completely surrounded the restaurant so I couldn't even leave, tried sniping but that didn't kill very many and shortly thereafter the mob showed up demanding William be handed over to them. I declined figuring I had all entrances barricaded a good bit of ammo and modified rifles and pistols but the mob attacked anyway, fighting through the crowd of zombies killing a bunch and losing some members, but got through my defenses dragged William off killing Emily in the process and leaving Melissa and Chase wounded, but they didn't have long to worry about it since immediately thereafter they were killed by the horde of zombies.

So not too successful, only 2 negative interactions, nearly 70 zombies killed, but only made it barely to day 3 with only a radio and one clue to the location. 2nd game wasn't nearly as good though as I sent my whole team to breach an adjacent location and they all died after only a few hours.

Enjoying the game, but so far haven't wanted to save my diaries as I don't want to be reminded of my poor survivor's last moments *cry* and my mistakes.
