Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experience in getting X2 running on modern systems.

My setup:
Intel i5-750
8GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit

The first problem I encountered was the video wouldn't play. I would get an error "Unable to open video". GoG Support advised me to do the following which solved that issue:

1.) Ensure you have installed (i.e. run the installer) as "administrator mode"
2.) Reinstall the June 2010 DirectX Runtime package (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109)
3.) Reinstall the DirectX Web Installer (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35&e6b34bbe-75b-1abd-2c51-b5034bcdd6d2)

Atfer running the above steps, my installation worked great save for 1 issue. The audio was screwed up. All audio played with static. This wound up being a result of the Haali codec which came with an old installation of CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). Removing this pack and installing the latest version (which doesn't have the Haali codec by default) solved this issue.

X2 now plays as beautifully as I remember it on my WinXP machine.

Hope this helps anyone with a nostalgia bug. :)
