So i have been reading around a bit and all the guides encorage and kind of state that changing class is a "must" , so far my group is in lv 8-9 and the only one that can change into something good is my priest , into a valkiry , now my question is , can the game be completed without goin crazy without changing class ? , i dont fancy much having a char changing class into a lv 1 and having to farm exp just to get him up again , and i dont really feel like starting new , even thought this dwarven mines where i am at now are making me go crazy , if this game is good at something is at making you get lost quick haha , anyways i apreciate the info on this matter :)

Changing class is not a "must" in Wizardry 6.
You can, and has been done, complete the game without ever changing class. Someone could say you'd be missing one of the core mechanics of Wizardry, but it's not really a huge deal. It's also something that should be somewhat planned from the start, when creating characters.

What I'd suggest, though, is a middle ground way: changing class once, around lvl 10. The ideal way to plan your class change would be, when you create your character, to roll for a high bonus, pick your starting class, and distribute your remaining points to meet the requirements (or get as close as you can) of your future class. This way you don't have to go crazy hoping for a lucky stat increase at levelup.

Keep in mind that when you change class you go back at lvl 1 but the exp requirements for level-up also 'go back' at lvl 1. So, for example, if you change at level 10, it would take about the same XP to get your new class to lvl 10 again that it would have taken to get to level 11 if you hadn't changed class. So, at most, you 'lose' one level for each change.You also don't really need to farm xp at any point.

Considering your situation I'd say keep playing the way you are, don't restart. If there's any character who can change in something you'd like (like your priest into a valk, good change) then change, but don't go crazy if it doesn't happen.

Thanks a lot for the info , yeah the problem is that i did not think at all about bonus points in the beggining so i dont think any of my characters got more then 10 points at creation xD , one thing though is that my priest is the only healer i have in my group now , if she changes into a valkiry will she still be able to heal ?

Any character that changes class will still be able to cast the previously learned spells.
But, while she will be able to immediately cast all spells at power level 1 (the dice thing), to cast at higher power level she has to be, IIRC, at level (SL+PL), where SL is the spell level (Heal is SL 1) and PL is power level (the 'dice').

The valk has access to the same spellbook of the priest, so she'll be able to continue learning spell of that school.
However, she'll start learning new spells only after a few levels (not many, I think at level 3).

Have a look at this FAQ (should not contain spoilers), in particular section 2B explains the class changing mechanic.

As mentioned class changing is not really required in Wiz 6. Wiz 7 is another matter, though, due partly to different skill point distribution.

One thing to consider is that just about any combat calculation done in Wiz 6 is based on character levels and how they compare to monster levels. First time I played my Valkyrie, who changed immediately from Priest was a couple of levels higher than the other party members and was the only one who had a decent chance of shrugging off spells from enemy priests in the end game.
So multi classed characters will have higher skill levels and more options, but will be more vulnerable to enemies. And their Ninjutsu and Kirijutsu may not be very effective against monsters of higher levels.
Still, high magic skill is very important in order to cast the highest level spells, so I'd recommend one class change at somewhere between level 5 and 10 to get those extra skill points ASAP.

Another thing to consider is that mana recovery is determined at the start of the game. Base classes like Mages, Alchemists, Priests and Psionics get the highest mana recovery, the prestige classes the second best, and the Fighters and Thieves worst. Fairies also get a bonus to mana recovery.
So a character starting as a Priest will always have better base (some items help) mana recovery than a character starting as a Valkyrie, Bishop or Lord.

Characters retain all their skills and spells (but will only be able to cast lvl 1 spells at first) when changing class, but their stats will drop to minimum for their race or class, whichever is higher. Only characters who are currently a Bard may use musical instruments, though. In Wiz 7 it is enough to have the Music skill.
So if your Bard changes class it may be a good idea for another character to change into a Bard.

Thanks for the info guys , its allways helps to see what other people that have played allready think about some mecanics , my ranger just got enough to be able to change into a ninja , so i might change him into one and then my priest into a valkiry , i supose though i will have to go back to the castle to level them up then ? i am currently starting out the piramid , and having allready problems with my full level party , not sure how i would do with 2 level 1 in my group :P

Edit : ok i decided to finally go for it and changed my ranger into a ninja and priest into valkiry , wile the others are smashing stuff they are leveling pretty quick , and allready my ranger wich did not much before with the bow , is atacking like 5 times per round :D , my warrior is close to being able to change into samurai so i might as well do that later on :) , i am finally starting to see the good of class changing .

A quick question. I changed my mage to a psionic to get mental attack and will be changing her to a ninja soon to get back into the mage spellbook to round out the rest of the high level spells I need. My question is can I change her BACK to a mage after I get the spells I need and will she return to her previous mage level? It would be great to be able to cast the highest level spells at the highest power level, too. The same question applies for my priest who is currently a bishop and may be changed to a lord or monk after.

You can change back to previous classes, but they will restart their mage and priest careers at lvl 1.

That may actually work out better before finishing the game to import into Wiz 7 if they don't keep all the spells when moving to that game.

They keep all their spells when changing classes (but will have to level up before being able to cast them all again), but when transfering between games they do indeed (IIRC) lose some of the spells and will have to relearn them.

In Wiz 7 getting high magic skills is also more difficult/takes more time than in Wiz 6, since you can't spend all your skill points on one skill,
so class changing to get more skill points is much more important than in Wiz 6.

My plan is to get the remaining spells I need for this game, finish it, then switch to the classes I want to play in Wizardry 7 so that I can have an easier start. That's mostly because of the back liners though because i want my Bard back, and my priest and mage. I think the Samurai, Ninja, and Monk can stick around for the next one.
