I reset the save location without realizing that I was making a hassle for myself. It now wants me to "insert a save disk into drive C". Is there any way without losing my game, which luckily is right at the beginning but with high bonus characters, to get it back to where I can save and load?

If it was me - I would backup the save(s), uninstall the game, reinstall the game (to get save default), drop the save(s) where they belong, load and play.
