I recently installed WC3, and although the game seems to play alright, I can't see the cockpit view. If I press "F1", it looks like something toggles, but nothing happens - i just see the HUD.

Interestingly, if I blow up, the cockpit appears momentarily.

I've tried playing with the video settings in the Dosbox configurator to no avail. My machine is a Surface Pro 3, but I'm running my monitor out to an external monitor with a normal aspect ratio (the aspect ratio settings did not make a difference.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I have this problem as well.

You may want to try this .conf, just copy it into your WC3 folder and overwrite.
I have to say I haven't fully tested it on speed issues and smooth gameplay but I think I remember I did have cockpits back when I played this.

this probably isn't your problem but just in case I would note that the training simulator missions do not have cockpits, only the story missions.
