I've found that the dilemma in older games of having to choose between choppy gameplay and correct behavior and animations or smooth gameplay and weird behaviors or animations that are way too fast is easily solved by using a DOSBOX that supports vsync and simply capping the FPS instead of lowering CPU cycles.
My question is -- at what framerate should Wing Commander 1 be run - 20 FPS?
